Aspiration detected in the fiberoptic endoscopy evaluation of swallowing (FEES) has been inconsistently associated with pneumonia, with no evidence of the risk of pneumonia from other alterations in swallowing safety detected in FEES. We conducted a dynamic, ambidirectional cohort study involving 148 subjects at risk of dysphagia in a tertiary university hospital. Our aim was to determine the risk of pneumonia attributed to alterations in swallowing safety detected during FEES.

A prospective cohort study was structured to examine patient's tumor mass factors that could determine a specific cognitive function profile in patients with Malignant Glioma who survived after the Stupp protocol, while adjusting for previously explored confounding factors. Neuropsi - Attention and Memory (Second edition) was applied after tumor resection, but before any other oncological treatment. Follow-up neuropsychological evaluation was conducted when patients completed the Stupp protocol treatment scheme.

Pulmonary mucormycosis in an adolescent female with type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Mucormycosis is a relatively rare, life-threatening and opportunistic infection that affects immunocompromised patients. We present the unusual case of pulmonary mucormycosis in a 13-year-old Caucasian female that had recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Our case serves as an example to healthcare providers treating immunosuppressed patients with pneumonia to have a high clinical suspicion for fungal infections, as delay in diagnosis and treatment can result in disseminated disease and higher patient mortality risk.
