Background And Objective: Direct-acting antivirals have greatly simplified the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV), yet circuits that bring diagnosis and treatment closer to people who inject drugs (PWID) are needed to achieve the elimination targets of the WHO. With this purpose we have established an externalized nurse-driven circuit among former and active PWID in an addiction centre (AC) and a harm reduction centre (HRC).

Methods And Settings: The nursing staff offered HCV screening, diagnosis and treatment to the AC and HRC users, administered medication after the hepatologist's remote prescription to those with an active infection who accepted being treated, and implemented educational and harm reduction interventions.

Article Synopsis
  • Hippocampal sclerosis (HS) is a major cause of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) but can be hard to detect on MRI, leading to surgical delays, so researchers created open-source software to improve diagnosis.
  • The study involved 365 participants, using the software HippUnfold to analyze MRI scans and develop a logistic regression model that accurately identifies and localizes HS.
  • The classifier showed high accuracy in detecting HS in both initial and independent patient cohorts, proving effective for individual assessments by comparing patient data with normative growth patterns.

Counseling on physical activity (PA) to promote a child's overall growth, development, and wellness is a routine part of a well child visit. Given less than a quarter of children in the United States ages 6 to 17 years get 60 minutes of PA daily, there is increased focus on the built environment, that is, neighborhood level supports and barriers to PA and risk for obesity. Broad-based consideration of the built environment's contribution to childhood obesity can inform public health prevention strategies at the individual, family, community, and societal levels that promote children's health, especially in high-risk communities.

Article Synopsis
  • Palliative care clinicians help patients with serious illnesses make tough medical decisions, especially near the end of life.
  • Sometimes, patients have guardians because a court decided they can't make their own choices, which can make things complicated.
  • It's important for healthcare workers to know the rights of these patients and what guardians should do, so they can work together and give the best care possible.

Plastic pollution has become a global challenge, affecting water quality and health. Plastics including polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), are significant contributors to environmental pollution. With the growing need for investigation and detection of plastics found in natural waters, we propose the use of a portable laser diode (LD)-based fluorescence lidar system for in-situ detection of plastic litters in surface waters based on excitation-emission fluorescence spectroscopic data.

Treatment of children with upper-extremity trauma, congenital hand differences, cerebral palsy, and brachial plexus birth injuries requires specialized training, given the spectrum of pathology and complexities of treating an individual who is still developing. Although a limited number of dedicated pediatric hand surgery fellowships are available, mastering the large breadth of the field should ideally begin early in training and may take several different pathways. The authors seek to provide a comprehensive list of resources for trainees interested in pediatric hand surgery, including training opportunities, educational tools, and networking organizations.

Ammonia synthesis the catalytic Haber-Bosch process is characterized by its high pressures and low single-pass conversions, as well as by the energy-intensive production of the precursors H and N and their concomitant greenhouse gas emissions. Alternatively, thermochemical cycles based on metal nitrides stand as a promising pathway to green ammonia production because they can be conducted at moderate pressures without added catalysts and be further driven by concentrated solar energy as the source of high-temperature process heat. The ideal two-step cycle consists of the nitridation of a metal to form a metal nitride, followed by the hydrogenation of the metal nitride to synthetize NH and reform the metal.

The incidence of skin cancer is increasing worldwide even though its main risk factor is preventable. This study evaluated the impact of the Distintivo Soludable pilot intervention on implementation of photoprotection policies and practices in preschool and primary schools in Andalusia, Spain. We completed two rounds of a Sun Protection Policies and Practices Survey (SPPPS) nine months apart.

Introduction: Growth hormone (GH)-secreting pituitary tumors (GHomas) are the most common acromegaly cause. At diagnosis, most of them are macroadenomas, and up to 56% display cavernous sinus invasion. Biomarker assessment associated with tumor growth and invasion is important to optimize their management.

Background And Aims: Malnutrition in lung transplantation (LT) candidates increases postoperative morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis of malnutrition could attenuate adverse prognostic factors. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of nutritional risk and malnutrition using GLIM criteria in LT candidates and clinically characterize those with malnutrition.

Purpose: As the fifth international consensus on advanced breast cancer (ABC5) established guidelines for the management of this disease, the aim of this article was to present the applicability of the consensus recommendations and to generate knowledge to improve access.

Methods: Sixty-one recommendation statements were selected and discussed by 15 breast cancer experts from Latin America (LA). After the discussion, the level of consensus was determined through a vote.

Importance: While effective, cardiovascular rehabilitation (CR) as traditionally delivered is not well implemented in lower-resource settings.

Objective: To test the noninferiority of hybrid CR compared with traditional CR in terms of cardiovascular events.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This pragmatic, multicenter, parallel arm, open-label randomized clinical trial (the Hybrid Cardiac Rehabilitation Trial [HYCARET]) with blinded outcome assessment was conducted at 6 referral centers in Chile.

  • * Five patients with these elbow lesions underwent UVA light testing, demonstrating that UVA exposure can provoke the characteristic skin lesions associated with this condition.
  • * The findings confirmed that these elbow rashes are indeed a variant of polymorphous light eruption, supported by histological evidence and the presence of specific skin characteristics after UVA exposure.

β2-microglobulin (B2M) is a critical component of the MHC class I molecule and is required to present tumor antigens to T cells. Its loss results in acquired resistance to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapies. However, there have been well-documented cases of B2M-inactivated tumors responding to ICB, justifying investigation of how an antitumor immune response can be generated to tumors without surface MHC class I.

Background: To analyze whether the application of topical formulas as cosmetics or sunscreens could affect the skin thermographic readings in terms of infection control in pandemic situations.

Methods: The temperature of the skin of the dorsal region of the back and the face of 20 volunteers was followed after the application of 6 different types of gels, sunscreens, and make-up under controlled temperature and humidity conditions. High-resolution thermographic images were analyzed to calculate the temperature of treated skin compared to skin free of topical products.

Disseminated coccidioidomycosis is a rare cause of flexor tendon tenosynovitis, particularly in the pediatric population. We present the case of a 2-month-old male infant with disseminated coccidioidomycosis of the right index finger, which was initially treated with debridement and long-term antifungal therapy. Six months after discontinuing antifungal medications and at the age of 2 years, the patient presented with relapse of coccidioidomycosis of his right index finger.
