Inhalation of smoke from burn pits during military deployment is associated with several adverse pulmonary outcomes. We exposed human airway epithelial cells to smoke condensates from burn pit waste materials. Single and repeated exposure of condensates triggered unique and common responses in terms of gene expression, that sustained through the recovery phase.

Objective: Infantile subglottic hemangioma (SGH) poses a risk of airway compromise if untreated. Traditionally, operative endoscopy (OH) diagnoses SGH, but since the discovery of beta-blockers' efficacy in treating infantile hemangiomas (IHs) in 2008, and advances in endoscopic technology, nonoperative methods have emerged. Here we recovered a wild-type pangolin (Pg) CoV GD strain including derivatives encoding reporter genes using reverse genetics. In primary human cells, PgCoV replicated efficiently but with reduced fitness and showed less efficient transmission via airborne route compared with SARS-CoV-2 in hamsters.

Background: Collaborative health research, such as integrated knowledge translation (IKT), requires researchers to have specific knowledge and skills in working in partnership with knowledge users. Graduate students are often not provided with the opportunity to learn skills in how to establish collaborative relationships with knowledge users in the health system or communities, despite its importance in research. The objective of this environmental scan is to identify available guidelines for graduate trainees to use an IKT approach in their research.

Remembering and forgetting are both important processes of a healthy memory system, but both processes can show age-related decline. Reward anticipation is effective at improving remembering in both younger and older adults, but little is known about the effects of incentives on forgetting. In four online experiments, we examined whether reward motivation modulates intentional remembering and forgetting in younger and older adults, and systematically varied the presentation of reward cues during encoding to test whether the temporal dynamics of reward anticipation are important for directed forgetting performance.

Background: COVID-19 data have been generated across the United Kingdom as a by-product of clinical care and public health provision, as well as numerous bespoke and repurposed research endeavors. Analysis of these data has underpinned the United Kingdom's response to the pandemic, and informed public health policies and clinical guidelines. However, these data are held by different organizations, and this fragmented landscape has presented challenges for public health agencies and researchers as they struggle to find relevant data to access and interrogate the data they need to inform the pandemic response at pace.

However, age-related changes in this system may impact how arousal coordinates selectivity in older adults. Hierarchical Magnetic Films for High-Performance Plasmonic Sensors.

Hierarchically structured films comprise a growing section of the field of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). Here, we report a novel, powerfully enhancing hierarchical plasmonic substrate featuring patterned multilayers of magnetic iron oxide nanospheres using an external magnetic field to create sets of radial ridges. This new substrate allows for effective analyte adsorption and significant Raman signal enhancement, thanks to the contribution of both the magnetic and plasmonic components to the electromagnetic hotspots.
