Carrageenans are major gel forming polysaccharides in the extracellular matrix of the red macroalga Chondrus crispus. These galactans are made of linear chains of repetitive disaccharide motifs based on d-galactose residues alternately linked by β-1,4 and α-1,3 glycosidic bonds. A definite number of disaccharide motifs are known, based on their regular sulfations and the presence of a 3,6-anhydro bridge.

Evidence generated from randomized clinical trials (RCTs) plays an indispensable role in advancing clinical stroke care. Although the number of stroke-related RCTs published every year has grown exponentially over the past 25 years, the execution and completion of RCTs, particularly those conducted in a hyperacute setting, have grown more complicated and challenging over the years. In addition to the practical challenges associated with conducting a clinical trial, like obtaining human subjects approval, identifying clinical sites, training trial personnel, and enrolling the target number of patients within the available funding and timeline, the complexity of contemporary RCT designs and analyses has become much more exacting.

Water absorption in wheat flour is a crucial parameter for optimizing bread-making processes. The determinants of wheat flour water absorption were investigated through the analysis of 28 compositional and technological properties of 150 wheats grown in France. A multiple linear regression approach was used to predict the water absorption, selecting the best model through successive examination of Bayesian Information Criterion, Variance Inflation Factor and minimizing the total number of variables.

Issues: Health policy makers worldwide have adopted evidence-based legislation, largely directed at consumers, to reduce tobacco-related harm. It is suggested that limiting supply by decreasing retail availability can also reduce cigarette smoking. To inform policy makers this systematic literature review assesses whether reducing availability is associated with smoking behaviours.

Background: Youth leisure-time physical activity participation benefits physical activity habits and health outcomes later in life. However, it is unknown if certain types of leisure-time physical activity contribute to these benefits in different ways; this knowledge could enhance public health efforts. This systematic review aimed to synthesise evidence of the longitudinal associations between childhood and adolescent leisure-time physical activity on adulthood physical activity behaviours and health outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast milk composition can be changed by what mothers eat, influencing infant gut health.
  • A study tested whether adding prebiotic fiber (scFOS) to sows' diets during late pregnancy and lactation affects the milk they produce and the gut microbiota of their piglets.
  • Results showed that scFOS supplementation reduced certain oligosaccharides in milk and altered both the lipid profile of the milk and the gut microbiota of the offspring, suggesting potential health benefits for the pigs.

Transport-related physical activity levels differ across the lifecourse; however, the nature of these differences is poorly understood. This study examined the relationship between correlates of transport-related physical activity and how they differ in strength, pathway, and direction across the lifecourse. Structural Equation Modelling assessed relationships between correlates (e.

Secondary prevention is a major priority for those living with stroke and may be improved through the use of mobile Health (mHealth) interventions. While evidence for the effectiveness of mHealth interventions for secondary prevention of stroke is growing, little attention has been given to the translation of these interventions into real-world use. In this review, we aimed to provide an update on the effectiveness of mHealth interventions for secondary prevention of stroke, and investigate their translation into real-world use.
