Background: The raising of disability and chronic illness burden among European population is calling for a new paradigm of care, focused on primary health care interventions. Engage-In-Caring is a novel multicomponent intervention clearly dedicated to improve family caregiver engagement in the care of patients with complex care needs, by supporting them to develop a stronger consciousness of their role, needs and skills.

Method: Engage-In-Caring intervention's efficacy and feasibility have been evaluated through a single arm pre-post observational pilot study settled in Rome.

Electron spin resonance spectroscopy has been used to monitor free radicals formed during CCl4 metabolism by perfused livers from phenobarbital-treated rats. Livers were perfused simultaneously with the spin trap phenyl N-t-butylnitrone and with either 12CCl4 or 13CCl4. Perfusate samples and CHCl3:CH3OH extracts of perfusate and liver samples were analyzed for phenyl N-t-butylnitrone radical adducts of reactive free radicals.

The affinity of two anthracycline antineoplastics [( 14C]adriamycin and [14C]daunomycin) for cultured embryonic chick heart cells was determined by measuring their uptake, compartmentalization into subcellular fractions, and effects on the synthesis of cytoplasmic and cytoskeletal proteins. Both drugs, at micromolar concentrations, were readily uptaken by myocytes and found to be concentrated in a light-buoyant-density fraction containing no lysosomes. Nuclear 14C drug content accounted for 20-25% of the drug incorporated.
