Biological Glue as an Alternative to Suction Drainage in Tissue-Expanded Flaps in Children: Cost-Effectiveness Study.

Introduction: Biological glue is already used as a hemostatic agent and tissue adhesive in plastic surgery. This study evaluates the use of this glue as an alternative to suction drainage for the adhesion of tissue-expanded flaps in pediatric patients.

Methods: This is a retrospective, multicenter case-control study on 48 flap procedures conducted on 42 children (5 months-12 years of age) between 2004 and 2017, comparing a "glue" group (n = 24) with a control group (n = 24), in which a classic redon drain was used.

Laparoscopic Vascular Hitch for Polar Vessels in Pyeloureteric Junction Obstruction: Medium-Term Follow-up of a Monocentric Experience.

Introduction:  To evaluate medium-term results of the management of patients with pyeloureteric junction obstruction (PUJO) secondary to lower pole vessels managed by a laparoscopic vascular hitch technique.

Materials And Methods:  We performed a retrospective monocentric study of all patients who were operated using this technique, transperitoneal laparoscopy (TL) or robotic surgery (RS), from 2011 to 2018. Description of the initial population, pre- and postoperative data was collected and analyzed.

Management of nasopharyngeal teratomas associated with cleft palate.

Nasopharyngeal teratomas are rare tumours, responsible for a high birth mortality rate from acute respiratory distress. Palatine localization can lead to an embryopathogenic mechanical obstacle responsible for a cleft palate. The aim of this study was to update current knowledge concerning the management of this rare pathological association.

Wilms tumor, pleuropulmonary blastoma, and DICER1: case report and literature review.

Background: Pleuroblastoma (PPB) is a rare pediatric tumor which, in 30% of cases, is associated with cystic nephroma. It has been recently linked to the DICER1 mutation as part of a predisposition syndrome for various tumors. However, if DICER 1 anomalies have been reported in patients with Wilms tumor (WT), to date, no cases of PPB, WT, and DICER1 mutations have been reported in the same patient.

Non-operative Management for Uncomplicated Appendicitis: An Option to Consider.

Aim:  The main goal of our study was to assess a 7 days long course of antibiotics for acute uncomplicated appendicitis.

Materials And Methods:  From March 2014 to November 2015, all patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis have been considered to be treated by only antibiotics. Inclusion criteria included clinical (tenderness), biological (C-reactive protein [CRP] < 50), and radiological features (diameter > 6 mm).

[Management of unintentional pediatric female genital trauma].

Introduction: Unintentional pediatric female genital trauma is frequent in the daily practice of emergency wards. However, scientific data are rare in the literature, leading to variability in their management. The aim of this study was to evaluate our practice in order to obtain epidemiological data and define clinical guidelines.

[From paediatric urological care to adult urology. Assessment of a transition consultation for adolescents].

Unlabelled: To provide an adequate lifelong urological care in the complex period of adolescence, a transition consultation conducted by a paediatric surgeon and an urologist was developed in our institution. As a real rite of passage, it allows the follow-up and the adapted care of urological conditions, sometimes complex, and permits the transition between childhood and the world of grown-ups. We reported our experience at the Children Hospital of our institution (paediatric surgery and urology departments).

Altered secretion of Sertoli cells hormones in 2-year-old prepubertal cryptorchid boys: a cross-sectional study.

In cryptorchid boys, failures in germ cell development have been clearly established. Some studies reported some abnormalities in Sertoli cells morphology but the results regarding their endocrine secretion remain controversial. To compare testicular hormone levels in young boys with and without cryptorchidism, we performed a cross-sectional hospital-based study.

Comparison between pediatric and adult adipose mesenchymal stromal cells.

Background: Adipose-derived mesenchymalstromal cells (ASC) are currently tested in regenerative medicine to promote tissue reconstruction after injury. Regardingautologous purpose, the possible loss of therapeutic function and cell properties during aging have been questioned in adults. To date no reliable information is available concerning ASC from pediatric patients and a better knowledge is required for clinical applications.

[Conservative management of tracheal injuries in children: Clinical case and literature review].

Tracheal injuries are a rare but potentially lethal entity, most particularly in pediatrics. While standardized management allows quick therapeutic decisions in adults, based on the results of the initial bronchoscopy, the use of diagnostic exams remains unclear during childhood. We describe the case of a 6-year-old patient with a posterior tracheal wall injury due to a car accident, which was managed without tracheal endoscopy.

[Intussusception in infancy and childhood: Radiological and surgical management].

Ileocolic intussusception in infants and children requires emergency treatment and has a very good prognosis. Abdominal ultrasonography imaging has a high sensitivity and specificity in its detection. Management of ileocolic intussusceptions now requires fewer surgical procedures because interventional radiology is usually efficient.

Non-contrast-enhanced MR angiography using time-spin labelling inversion pulse technique for detecting crossing renal vessels in children with symptomatic ureteropelvic junction obstruction: comparison with surgical findings.

Objectives: Investigate the feasibility and evaluate the accuracy of non-contrast-enhanced MR angiography (NC-MRA) using time-spin labelling inversion pulse (time-SLIP)to identify crossing renal vessels (CRVs) in children requiring surgical treatment of ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstructionand compare to laparoscopic findings.

Materials And Methods: Nineteen children ranging from 6 to 16 years of age underwent NC-MRA using the time-SLIP technique before surgery. Two independent readers analysed the MRA images.

Prenatal diagnosis of right-sided diaphragmatic hernia and ipsilateral intrathoracic kidney in a female fetus: a rare observation.

Congenital diaphragmatic hernia is a rare congenital malformation, as well as kidney ectopia. Among kidney ectopias, the intrathoracic one is the rarest. Those malformations concern more frequently boys, and affected more the left than the right side.

[Morgagni-Larrey diaphragmatic hernia in a 3-month-old child affected by Marfan syndrome].

The authors report on a case of diaphragmatic hernia occurring in a 3-month-old child affected by Marfan syndrome. Diagnosis was made on a chest X-ray and cardiac ultrasounds, performed because of the association of poor general condition, failure to thrive, and signs of respiratory distress. As a reminder, we emphasize the association between Marfan disease and diaphragmatic hernias as well as the diagnostic approach to reach an appropriate diagnosis.

[Prenatal diagnosis of a right thoracic congenital ectopic kidney with a diaphragmatic hernia: a combination with a good prognosis].

Ectopic intrathoracic kidney is a rare congenital anomaly, usually asymptomatic. This anomaly is sometimes associated with a diaphragmatic hernia. Few cases of this combination have been described, often in the absence of a prenatal diagnosis.

[Thymoma in children: a rare and difficult diagnosis].

Thymoma is extremely rare within the pediatric age range, which could lead to delayed diagnosis. Based on the clinical case of a mediastinal tumor in an 8-year-old patient, we detail the key points in the management of this disease highlighted by our recent experience.

[Epidemiology of malformations associated with cleft lip and palate: a retrospective study of 324 cases].

Purpose: Children with cleft lip and/or palate may have associated malformations, whether or not they are included in a syndromic form. This study's purpose was to provide a better understanding of the epidemiology and distribution of malformations and syndromes associated with these clefts.

Methods: Retrospective study of 324 patients with cleft lip or palate born between 1994 and 2011.

[Management of urachal remnants in children: Is surgical excision mandatory?].

Introduction: The classical management of urachal remants consists in surgical resection, in order to prevent infections and long term malignancies. However, some reports have recently spread a wait and see management. The aim of our study was to report the results of the surgical management in our center.

[Long-term outcomes after hypospadias surgery: Sexual reported outcomes and quality of life in adulthood].

Objective: To evaluate outcomes and long-term sexual quality of life after hypospadias surgery. Seventeen-years-old patients operated for a posterior hypospadias in childhood were included in a transversal study.

[Biliary peritonitis after traumatic rupture of a choledochal cyst].

Choledochal cysts are rare congenital malformations of the biliary tract. Traumatic rupture of a choledochal cyst can be misleading. An 11-year-old boy was admitted for peritonitis and intestinal occlusion after blunt abdominal trauma, evolving over 48 h.
