Hodgkin's disease in HIV-infected patients.

Eight patients with Hodgkin's disease who were seropositive to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), 6 of them being heroin addicts and one a homosexual, were studied. Histological examination showed 4 cases of lymphocytic depletion, 2 cases of mixed cellularity, 1 nodular sclerosis, and one not classifiable. There were five cases of stage IV-B and 3 IIIs-B.

Monoclonal antibodies against Candida tropicalis mannan: antigen detection by enzyme immunoassay and immunofluorescence.

Three strains of mice were immunized with Candida tropicalis cell walls, and antibodies against mannan were detected by indirect enzyme immunoassay (EIA) in 3 of 9 BALB/c mice, 4 of 11 C57BL/6 mice, and 4 of 8 CFW mice. Responding mice produced immunoglobulin M (IgM), but IgG was not detected in their sera. Fusion of the high-responder BALB/c mouse with a plasmacytoma cell line resulted in 41 clones secreting antimannan monoclonal antibodies (MAbs).

Quantification of cell surface roughness; a method for studying cell mechanical and adhesive properties.

The presence on the surface of nucleated cells of a variety of asperities of different size and shape plays a prominent role in cell-cell and cell-substrate interaction. Also, the organization of these asperities is directly related to cellular cytoskeletal elements. In the present report, we describe a simple and objective method of studying electron micrographs to quantify the roughness of cell contours.
