Given the psychological aspects of sports nutrition, understanding one's athletic identity (AI) may improve targeted nutrition education. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine nutrition habits and AI among uninjured youth athletes. Athletic Identity Measurement Scale (AIMS) and custom Sports Nutrition Assessment for Consultation (SNAC) scores collected prospectively at local sporting events were retrospectively assessed via Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, logistic regression, and ANCOVA tests (95% CI).

John James Rickard Macleod provided the facilities and support that enabled Frederick Banting and Charles Best to perform the experimental work that resulted in the discovery of insulin. This review considers Macleod's intellectual contribution to the initial discovery in light of his previously expressed opinions on glucose metabolism. He acknowledged the likely existence of an internal secretion from the pancreas and was aware of previous work in the area; however, seeking it was not among his research priorities.

Imaging tools for kidney inflammation could improve care for patients suffering inflammatory kidney diseases by lessening reliance on percutaneous biopsy or biochemical tests alone. During kidney inflammation, infiltration of myeloid immune cells generates a kidney microenvironment that is oxidizing relative to normal kidney. Here, we evaluated whether magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using the redox-active iron (Fe) complex Fe-PyC3A as an oxidatively activated probe could serve as a marker of kidney inflammation using mouse models of unilateral ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and lupus nephritis (MRL-lpr mice).

Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children experience systematic barriers to equitable education due to intentional or unintentional ableist views that can lead to a general lack of awareness about the value of natural sign languages, and insufficient resources supporting sign language development. Furthermore, an imbalance of information in favor of spoken languages often stems from a phonocentric perspective that views signing as an inferior form of communication that also hinders development of spoken language. To the contrary, research demonstrates that early adoption of a natural sign language confers critical protection from the risks of language deprivation without endangering spoken language development.

Background Late gadolinium enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is an effective and reproducible method for characterizing myocardial infarction. However, gadolinium-based contrast agents are contraindicated in patients with acute and chronic renal insufficiency. Many forms of anemia are caused or complicated by pathologic restriction of iron (Fe). Chronic inflammation and certain genetic mutations decrease the activity of ferroportin, the only Fe-exporter protein, so that endogenously recycled or nutritionally absorbed Fe cannot be exported to the extracellular Fe carrier protein transferrin for delivery to the bone marrow. Diminished ferroportin activity renders anemia correction challenging as Fe administered intravenously or through nutritional supplementation is trafficked through the ferroportin-transferrin axis.

Objectives: Inflammation plays a key role in driving brain aneurysmal instability and rupture, but clinical tools to noninvasively differentiate between inflamed and stable aneurysms are lacking. We hypothesize that imaging oxidative changes in the aneurysmal microenvironment driven by myeloid inflammatory cells may represent a noninvasive biomarker to evaluate rupture risk.
