Working through the body in metacognitive interpersonal therapy to change relational patterns in dependent personality disorder: The case of Lia.

Persons with dependent personality disorder (DPD) have difficulties describing their inner world, and in realizing their negative ideas about the self, such as being weak, unworthy or powerless are just ideas. As a consequence, they tend to over-rely on others and may lose control over their emotions. Treating these persons can gain benefits from including body-focused techniques as they can promote a) awareness of internal states, b) better emotion regulation, c) the capacity to consider their negative ideas about themselves as not necessarily true, and d) gain power of and agency.

A multidisciplinary primary prevention intervention to increase adherence to the Mediterranean diet: a pilot study.

Background: The role of the Mediterranean Diet (MD) in reducing cardiovascular (CV) risk is widely demonstrated and many studies have shown the effectiveness of educational interventions in primary prevention. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a multidisciplinary educational intervention, that included nutritional, psychological and physical activity coaching, on adherence to MD and on CV risk.

Methods: In a Roman neighborhood, general practitioners enrolled 41 subjects to take part in the educational intervention from November 2018 (T) to November 2019 (T).

Addressing vaccine hesitancy: experimental evidence from nine high-income countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We study the impact of public health messages on intentions to vaccinate and vaccination uptakes, especially among hesitant groups. We performed an experiment comparing the effects of egoistic and altruistic messages on COVID-19 vaccine intentions and behaviour. We administered different messages at random in a survey of 6379 adults in December 2020, following up with participants in the nationally representative survey Citizens' Attitudes Under COVID-19 Project covering nine high-income countries (Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, the UK and the USA).

Positive Spillovers from Negative Campaigning.

Negative advertising is frequent in electoral campaigns, despite its ambiguous effectiveness: Negativity may reduce voters' evaluation of the targeted politician but may have a backlash effect for the attacker. We study the effect of negative advertising in electoral races with more than two candidates with a large-scale field experiment during an electoral campaign for mayor in Italy and a survey experiment in a fictitious mayoral campaign. In our field experiment, we find a strong, positive spillover effect on the third main candidate (neither the target nor the attacker).

A real opportunity to modify cardiovascular risk through primary care and prevention: A pilot study.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) represent a major threat to health and primary prevention outstands as the most effective instrument to face this issue, addressing multiple risk factors at a time and influencing behavioral patterns. Community nurses have been involved in many interdisciplinary prevention activities, resulting in effective control of CV risk factors. We conducted a pilot study aiming at describing the impact on the CV risk profile of an 18-month interdisciplinary intervention on lifestyle habits.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Autoimmune Demyelinating Diseases as a Diagnostic Challenge for Radiologists: Report of Two Cases and Literature Review.

The magnetic resonance characteristics of autoimmune demyelinating diseases are complex and represent a challenge for the radiologist. In this study we presented two different cases of detected autoimmune demyelinating diseases: one case of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis and one case of neuromyelitis optica, respectively. Expected and unexpected findings of magnetic resonance imaging examination for autoimmune demyelinating diseases were reported in order to provide a valuable approach for diagnosis.

The politics of ageing and retirement: Evidence from Swiss referenda.

Ageing threatens the financial sustainability of pay-as-you-go pension systems, since it increases the share of retirees to workers. An often-advocated policy response is to increase retirement age. Ironically, however, the political support for this policy may actually be hindered by population ageing.

Gender differences in COVID-19 attitudes and behavior: Panel evidence from eight countries.

The initial public health response to the breakout of COVID-19 required fundamental changes in individual behavior, such as isolation at home or wearing masks. The effectiveness of these policies hinges on generalized public obedience. Yet, people's level of compliance may depend on their beliefs regarding the pandemic.

Information and Women's Intentions: Experimental Evidence About Child Care.

We investigate the effect of providing information about the benefits to children of attending formal child care when women intend to use formal child care so they can work. We postulate that the reaction to the information differs across women according to their characteristics, specifically their level of education. We present a randomized experiment in which 700 Italian women of reproductive age with no children are exposed to positive information about formal child care through a text message or a video, while others are not.

Intracranial capillary hemangioma: a description of four cases.

Objective: Capillary hemangiomas are benign vascular lesions involving the skin and soft tissues that commonly occur at birth or an early age. Intracranial capillary hemangiomas are extremely rare; only 14 cases have been reported the literature.

Case Description: We describe four patients with capillary hemangiomas.

Probing the molecular and electronic structure of norhipposudoric and hipposudoric acids from the red sweat of Hippopotamus amphibius: a DFT investigation.

Molecular structure and tautomeric/conformational preferences of norhipposudoric and hipposudoric acids, the recently isolated pigments of the Hippopotamus amphibius' sweat, were investigated using the density functional theory (DFT) PBE0 formalism. Among a large variety of possible structures, two similar keto-enol tautomer/conformers are nearly isoenergetic and markedly more stable than the others both in the gas phase and aqueous solution. The bulk solvent effect was accounted for with the polarizable continuum model (PCM).

[Non-recurrent inferior laryngeal nerves and sympathetic-inferior laryngeal anastomotic branches: 6 years' personal experience].

The incidence and possible association of inferior laryngeal nerve and sympathetic anastomotic branch anomalies were evaluated in this study. Non-recurrent inferior laryngeal nerves stem from vascular anomalies involving the right subclavian artery and aortic arches during embryological development. These anomalies usually have no functional consequences (except for occasional dysphagia), but are potentially dangerous during thyroid surgery, occurring in about 1% of cases.

Probing the molecular and electronic structure of capsaicin: a spectroscopic and quantum mechanical study.

The conformational preferences of capsaicin were investigated by using the hybrid meta density functional theory (DFT) method MPWB1K. Its flexible, pendant side chain allows for a multitude of conformations only slightly different in energy. The distinctive vibrational features of the most stable conformers were characterized.

Spectroscopic and theoretical study of the electronic structure of curcumin and related fragment molecules.

The low volatility and thermal instability made the photoelectron (PE), electron transmission (ET), and dissociative electron attachment (DEA) spectroscopy measurements on curcumin (a potent chemopreventive agent) unsuccessful. The filled and empty electronic structure of curcumin was therefore investigated by exploiting the PES, ETS, and DEAS results for representative fragment molecules and suitable quantum-mechanical calculations. On this basis, a reliable pattern of the vertical ionization energies and electron attachment energies of curcumin was proposed.

Extradural arteriovenous fistulas involving the vertebral artery in neurofibromatosis Type 1.

Spinal extradural arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are rare lesions that may be associated with neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). In these patients, the shunt typically occurs between the V(2) segment of the vertebral artery and the epidural venous plexus. Previously, reported cases have been treated either by using endovascular embolization or, sporadically, by open surgery.

Dissociative electron attachment to di-tert-butylperoxide, artemisinin, and beta-artemether.

The gas-phase dissociative electron attachment spectra of di-tert-butylperoxide (DBP) and the antimalarial polycyclic peroxides artemisinin and beta-artemether are presented for the first time. The total anion currents measured at the walls of the collision chamber and the mass selected anion currents are reported in the 0-6 eV energy range. Electron attachment to DBP produces an intense current, peaking at 1.

DFT study of conformational and spectroscopic properties of yatakemycin.

Molecular structure and conformational preferences of yatakemycin, a novel and exceptionally potent antitumor agent, have been investigated using the density functional theory (DFT) formalism. From the relative stability of various possible conformations, it is found that two conformers are nearly isoenergetic and markedly more stable than the others in the gas phase. To test the effect of polar mediums, the relative energies have been recalculated using the self-consistent reaction field method.

Theoretical study of the structure and bonding in bridgehead diphosphines.

The molecular structures of a representative selection of medium-sized bicyclic diphosphines (i.e., diphosphanes) were studied by means of the ab initio second-order Møller-Plesset (MP2) method.

BOLD signal and vessel dynamics: a hierarchical cluster analysis.

The aim of the present study was to analyze blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) signal variation during an apnea-based task in order to assess the capability of a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) procedure to estimate cerebral vascular dynamic effects. We measured BOLD contrast by hierarchical cluster analysis in healthy subjects undergoing an fMRI experiment, in which the task paradigm was one phase of inspirational apnea (IA). By processing the time courses of the fMRI experiment, analysis was performed only on a subclass of all the possible signal patterns; basically, root mean square and absolute variation differences have been calculated.

A catalytic antibody programmed for torsional activation of amide bond hydrolysis.

Amidase antibody 312d6, obtained against the sulfonamide hapten 4 a that mimics the transition state for hydrolysis of a distorted amide, accelerates the hydrolysis of the corresponding amides 1 a-3 a by a factor of 10(3) at pH 8. The mechanisms of both the uncatalyzed and antibody-catalyzed reactions were studied. Between pH 8 and 12 the uncatalyzed hydrolysis of N-toluoylindoles 1 a and 3 a shows a simple first-order dependence on [OH(-)], while hydrolysis of 3 a is zeroth-order in [OH(-)] below pH 8.

Social Security: a financial appraisal for the median voter.

Several explanations have been proposed for why voters continue to support unfunded social security systems. Browning (1975) suggests that the extremely large unfunded pension systems of most democracies depend on the existence of a voting majority composed of middle-aged and older people who fail to fully internalize the cost of financing the system. In fact, when voting, economically rational workers consider only their current and future contributions to the system and their expected pension benefits--not their past contributions, which they regard as sunk costs.

[Residual gastric mucosa after gastrectomy: development of precancerous lesions].

The gastric remnant can be regarded as a model to investigate the events of gastric carcinogenesis of intestinal type. Histologic changes precursor of the malignancy develop in higher incidence in the postoperative stomachs than in non-resected ones. 316 patients hemi-gastrectomized for peptic ulcer were assessed by an endoscopic-histologic study to provide further informations on the sequential chain of histologic lesions that precede the development of cancer.

[Osteopetrosis and renal acidosis: a new case of this rare syndrome].

The association between osteopetrosis and renal acidosis is not accidental, but represents a well-known syndrome with autosomal recessive transmission, due to carbonic anhydrase II(CA II) deficiency. The disease is extremely rare (only few reports in the literature). The diagnosis is confirmed by CA II erythrocyte assay.
