Background: Ovine pulmonary adenocarcinoma (OPA) is caused by Jaagsiekte sheep retrovirus (JSRV) and is considered an important potential animal model for human lung cancer. The precise mechanisms of OPA oncogenesis are still uncertain. The transcription factor signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is activated by interleukin-6 (IL-6) in many cancers, but this aspect is unknown in OPA.

This study analyzed 41 canine GLFH cases, including clinical, endoscopic, histopathological, and immunohistochemical evaluations.

Intestinal Osteosarcoma with Liver Metastasis in a Dog with a History of Recurrent Cotton-Based Toy Fragment Ingestion.

Canine extraskeletal osteosarcomas are mesenchymal, osteoid producing tumors that can arise in soft tissues without initial involvement of the bones. An 8-year-old intact male Beagle dog presented with anorexia, abdominal pain, intermittent vomiting and melena. The patient had a history of recurrent ingestion of cotton based-toy fragments, but no prior surgical procedures involving the abdominal cavity.

Development of High-Aspect-Ratio Soft Magnetic Microarrays for Magneto-Mechanical Actuation via Field-Induced Injection Molding.

Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are in demand in the field of high-tech microindustries and nanoindustries such as biomedical applications and soft robotics due to their exquisite magneto-sensitive response. Among various MRE applications, programmable actuators are emerging as promising soft robots because of their combined advantages of excellent flexibility and precise controllability in a magnetic system. Here, we present the development of magnetically programmable soft magnetic microarray actuators through field-induced injection molding using MREs, which consist of styrene-ethylene/butylene styrene (SEBS) elastomer and carbonyl iron powder (CIP).

In practicing a new task, the initial performance gains, across consecutive trials, decrease; in the following phase, performance tends to plateau. However, after a long delay additional performance improvements may emerge (delayed/ "offline" gains). It has been suggested that the attainment of the plateau phase is a necessary condition for the triggering of skill consolidation processes that lead to the expression of delayed gains.

Melatonin Bioavailability After Oral Administration of a New Delayed-Release Form in Healthy Male Volunteers.

Background: Two main types of galenic formulation, immediate release and prolonged release, have been developed to optimize melatonin bioavailability. We recently described the kinetic profile of a prolonged-release form generating a peak of plasma melatonin 1 h (T) after intake, followed by a prolonged decay over time. We have developed a new oral form of melatonin with the aim of producing a melatonin peak several hours after intake.

Presentation and Outcomes of Lassa Fever in Children in Nigeria: A Prospective Cohort Study (LASCOPE).

Background: Data on the presentation, management, and outcomes of Lassa fever (LF) in children are limited.

Methods: Description of the clinical and biological features, treatment, and outcomes of reverse transcriptase and polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)-confirmed LF in children aged under 15, enrolled in the LASsa fever clinical COurse and Prognostic factors in an Epidemic context (LASCOPE) prospective cohort study in Nigeria between April 2018 and February 2023.

Results: One hundred twenty-four children (aged under 12 months: 19; over 12 months: 105) were hospitalized with RT-PCR-confirmed LF.

Cell-laden hydrogels have been extensively investigated in various tissue engineering fields by their potential capacity to deposit numerous types of cells in a specific area. They are largely used in soft-tissue engineering applications because of their low mechanical strength. In addition, sodium alginate is well-known for its encapsulation, loading capacity and for being easily controllable; however, it lacks cell-binding ligands and hence the ability to adhere cells.

Composition control of additively manufactured color-graded temporary veneer.

Objective: The aim of this study was to design and assess composite resin composition for patient-specific esthetic color-graded temporary veneer.

Methods: Various compositions of composite structures (assorted by BaSiO filler, TiO pigment, and photoinitiator) were prepared via additive manufacturing with 3 s UV exposure (405 nm, 10 W/cm) per 50 µm thick layer followed by 20 min post-curing treatment after fabrication. The effect of each component on the generated color shades was observed and compared to the commonly used VITA shade guide.

Hepatic vascular hamartoma in a cat: a case report with literature review.

Vascular hamartomas represent a focal proliferation of disorganized vascular tissue, which is usually present at birth. An 8-month-old Scottish fold female cat presented with abdominal distention, mild dyspnea, pale mucous membranes, and lethargy. Ultrasound examination revealed a hepatic mass resembling multiple cysts affecting the right medial lobe.

Yet, we lack a full understanding of the role visual information sampling plays in this process, and its relation to the individual's priors. To bridge this gap, the eye-movements of 18 adult participants were recorded during a free-viewing object-recognition task using Dots stimuli.

Influenza virus infections represent an ongoing public health threat as well as an economic burden. Although seasonal influenza vaccines have been available for some decades, efforts are being made to generate new efficient, flexible, and cost-effective technologies to be transferred into production. Our work describes the development of a model influenza hemagglutinin antigen that is capable of inducing protection against viral challenge in mice.

The Effect of Holder Pasteurization and Different Variants on Breast Milk Antioxidants.

Background: After birth, breast milk (BM) is a known essential source of antioxidants for infants. We analyzed the non-enzymatic total antioxidant capacity (TAC), oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), and glutathione, calcium, transferrin, and total protein levels of human breast milk before and after Holder pasteurization (HoP).

Methods: The collected donor BM samples were pasteurized with HoP.

Enhancement of properties of a cell-laden GelMA hydrogel-based bioink via calcium phosphate phase transition.

To improve the properties of the hydrogel-based bioinks, a calcium phosphate phase transition was applied, and the products were examined. We successfully enhanced the mechanical properties of the hydrogels by adding small amounts (< 0.5 wt%) of alpha-tricalcium phosphate (-TCP) to photo-crosslinkable gelatin methacrylate (GelMA).

Here, we demonstrate that the HIRA histone chaperone complex is required for the reversibility and longevity of nitrogen starvation-induced quiescence in . The HIRA protein, Hip1 is not required for entry into G0 or the induction of autophagy.

Background: The benefit of exogenous melatonin is based on its bioavailability, which depends on the galenic form, the route of administration, the dosage, and the individual absorption and rate of hepatic metabolism.

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the bioavailability of melatonin after administration of an oral prolonged-release tablet (PR form) and an immediate-release sublingual spray (IR form). The main metabolite of melatonin, 6-sulfatoxymelatonin (6-SMT), was also measured, which has not been done in previous studies.

Measurement of Direct-Photon Cross Section and Double-Helicity Asymmetry at sqrt[s]=510 GeV in p[over →]+p[over →] Collisions.

We present measurements of the cross section and double-helicity asymmetry A_{LL} of direct-photon production in p[over →]+p[over →] collisions at sqrt[s]=510  GeV. The measurements have been performed at midrapidity (|η|<0.25) with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider.

Is the infection in domestic dogs underestimated or misdiagnosed? A comprehensive presentation of four lethal cases.

Introduction: () is a widely distributed gastropod-borne nematode, causing severe cardio-pulmonary disorders in dogs. In Romania, was detected in foxes and serologically confirmed in domestic dogs, but no clinical cases are currently diagnosed.

Methods: Four dogs with clinical history of respiratory distress, originating from different geographical regions of Romania, were included in the study.
