Using ionizing radiation in treating waste sludge from a drinking water treatment plant is a well-known technique. Sludge treated with ionizing radiation can be used as fertilizer in agriculture. In this paper, the effects of aging on the physicochemical characteristics, the content of microorganisms, molds, acrylamide, heavy metal concentration, and total nutrient content in waste sludge treated with e-beam and gamma irradiation were investigated.

INTRODUCTION Euthanasia represents an ethical, social, legal and medical issue, which is being disputed more and more frequently worldwide. In Serbia, it is illegal and punishable by law and subject to a prison sentence. Euthanasia verbatim, meaning "good death", refers to the practice of ending a life in order to relieve pain and suffering.

Introduction: Pneumothorax is a common clinical problem in thoracic surgery. Leading professional associations have adopted a number of guidelines and recommendations for the treatment of pneumothorax, but their clinical use is often insufficient. Introduction: The treatment of rigid and severe scoliosis and kyphoscoliosis is a surgical challenge. Presurgical halo-gravity traction (HGT) achieves an increase in curve flexibility, a reduction in neurologic risks through gradual traction on a chronically tethered cord and an improvement in preoperative pulmonary function. However, little is known with respect to the ideal indications for HGT, its appropriate duration, or its efficacy in the treatment of rigid deformities.

Biometeorological phases influence on stroke morbidity.

Aim: To determine influence of biometeorological phases on stroke incidence according to age and gender of patients, place of residence, days in a week, months in a year, type of stroke, additional diagnosis.

Methods: Comparative analysis of the data on stroke patients (according to age, months, days, place of residence, age, sex, stroke type, additional diagnosis and number of hospitalization days) obtained by examining the records of discharge and admission of patients in the Department of Neurology of Kragujevac and everyday biometeorological phases obtained from the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia (RHMS of Serbia), for the following years: 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009 in Kragujevac.

The amyloid precursor protein (APP) involved in Alzheimer's disease is a member of a larger gene family including amyloid precursor-like proteins APLP1 and APLP2. We generated and examined the phenotypes of mice lacking individual or all possible combinations of APP family members to assess potential functional redundancies within the gene family.
