Background A growing number of men who have sex with men (MSM) utilise Grindr for seeking relationships and immediate/casual sexual encounters. Grindr and other mobile applications can be a valuable source of information on sociological predictors of health. One topic that is under reported is the use of Grindr by MSM with obesity.

Background: Youth who identify as transgender and gender diverse (TGD) are increasingly presenting to pediatric providers. Gender-affirming surgery is often delayed until after a patient reaches the age of majority; however, patients may desire surgery at a younger age.

Objective: We explore the specific clinical needs of this vulnerable population, including surgical requests.

Introduction: Only 20% of youth with intellectual and developmental disability (ID/DD) receive health care transition (HCT) preparation from their health care providers (HCPs). To address HCT system gaps, the first-of-its-kind HCT value-based payment (VBP) pilot was conducted for young adults (YA) with ID/DD.

Methods: This feasibility study examined the acceptability, implementation, and potential for expansion of the pilot, which was conducted within a specialty Medicaid managed care organization (HSCSN) in Washington, DC.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed the effects of multiple rounds of intralesional collagenase injections (more than the standard 8 injections) on patients with Peyronie disease (PD) between October 2015 and December 2020.
  • Out of 330 patients treated, 229 completed at least 8 injections, with varying degrees of clinical improvement observed: 42.8% after 1 round, 38.6% after 2, and 12.5% after 3 rounds.
  • The most common side effect recorded was bruising, occurring in over 50% of patients in each round of treatment.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of the transition from IMPACT, a disease-focused treatment program, to comprehensive health insurance under Medicaid through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on general and prostate cancer-specific quality of life (QoL) on a cohort of previously uninsured low-income men. We hypothesize that general QoL would improve and prostate cancer-specific QoL would remain the same after the transition to comprehensive health insurance.

Methods: We assessed and compared general QoL using the RAND SF-12v2™ (12-Item Short Form Survey, version 2) and prostate cancer-specific QoL using the UCLA PCI (Prostate Cancer Index) one year before, at, and one year after the transition between 30 men who transitioned to comprehensive insurance (newly insured/Medicaid group) and 54 men who remained in the prostate cancer program (uninsured/IMPACT group).

Background: Peyronie's disease (PD) can be subdivided into acute and chronic phases. Intralesional collagenase has been shown to improve curvature in the chronic phase. Initial clinical trials excluded patients in the acute phase from treatment.

Background: Geosocial networking (GSN) apps play a pivotal role in catalyzing sexual partnering, especially among men who have sex with men.

Objective: To quantify the prevalence and disparities in disclosure of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use and COVID-19 vaccination among GSN app users, mostly men who have sex with men, in the United States.

Methods: Web-based Grindr profiles from the top 50 metropolitan areas as well as the 50 most rural counties in the United States by population were randomly sampled.

Objectives: To determine the predictive value of voiding efficiency on acute urinary retention after discharge from BPH surgery.

Materials And Methods: We performed a prospective observational cohort study of three surgeons' practices from 2019 to present. All men included underwent trial of void on post-operative day one after transurethral resection of prostate or Holmium enucleation of prostate .

Purpose: The safety label for collagenase was updated to include postinjection acute lower back pain as an adverse event observed with intralesional therapy for Peyronie's disease. Incidence and causality are unknown. We assessed frequencies and temporal associations for this adverse event in a large cohort.

Objective: To compare health-related quality of life in men who underwent surgical vs. medical castration for metastatic prostate cancer.

Methods: We analyzed data from a prospective cohort of men enrolled in a statewide public health program that provides care for prostate cancer among low-income, uninsured men from 2001 to 2020.

Background: Transgender and gender-diverse individuals are particularly vulnerable to healthcare discrimination and related health sequelae.

Objective: To demonstrate diversity in demographics and explore variance in needs at the time of intake among patients seeking care at a large, urban gender health program.

Design: We present summary statistics of patient demographics, medical histories, and gender-affirming care needs stratified by gender identity and sexual orientation.

Purpose: Alterations in the urinary microbiome have been associated with urological diseases. The microbiome of patients with urethral stricture disease (USD) remains unknown. Our objective is to examine the microbiome of USD with a focus on inflammatory USD caused by lichen sclerosus (LS).

Background: Pubic hair grooming has been correlated with a self-reported history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). We examined this relationship further in a cross-sectional survey of patients attending an urban STI clinic in San Francisco in 2018.

Methods: Pubic hair grooming practices and detailed sexual histories were obtained.

Purpose: Various disparities exist in HIV transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM). Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has been shown to decrease the acquisition of HIV, but there is variation in uptake within the MSM population. We aim to characterise PrEP use and correlates of self-reported PrEP use in a large national sample of urban MSM in the USA.
