Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is a rare condition characterized by orthostatic headache, pulsatile tinnitus, vertigo, nausea, and fluctuating hearing loss; this latter seems to be due to the development of cochlear endolymphatic hydrops following negative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pressure transmitted to the perilymphatic space through a patent cochlear aqueduct. We here describe a case of bilateral progressive sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) due to intracranial hypotension caused by an undiagnosed spontaneous CSF leak from a skull base defect in a middle-aged woman. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report describing a SNHL in a patient affected by SIH secondary to sphenoidal CSF leak.

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is defined as acute hearing loss of the sensorineural type of at least 30 dB over 3 contiguous frequencies that occurs within a 72-hour period. Although many different causative factors have been proposed, sudden sensorineural hearing loss is still considered "idiopathic" in 71%-85% of cases, and treatments are empiric, not based on etiology. MR imaging implemented with a 3D FLAIR sequence has provided new insights into the etiology of sudden sensorineural hearing loss.

Carbon paste electrodes (CPEs) modified with silver particles present an interesting tool in the determination of paraquat (PQ) using square wave voltammetry. Metallic silver particle deposits have been obtained via electrochemical deposition in acidic media using cyclic voltammetry. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements show that the silver particles are deposited onto carbon surfaces in aggregate form.

A novel analytical approach has been developed and evaluated for the quantitative analysis of paraquat herbicides which can be found at trace levels in olive oil and olives. We describe an unusual laryngeal anomaly incidentally detected in an adult male patient who had suffered from chronic dysphonia since infancy with no change of voice quality over time. Laryngostroboscopy revealed a formation originating below the anterior commissure and protruding through the vocal folds, which computed tomography scan showed to be a calcified spur on the internal surface of the thyroid cartilage. The patient's clinical history of long-term dysphonia with a stable voice quality suggests that the anomaly may be congenital.

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) calcined, denoted as CLDHs, have been shown to recover their original layered structure in the presence of appropriate anions. Atresia of the submandibular ducts (particularly the duct orifice) is a rare occurrence that is mainly observed in newborns or infants; moreover, its differential diagnosis with other anomalies of the oral floor is sometimes difficult. Given the lack of data concerning the differences between atresia of the orifice of Wharton's duct and other anomalies of the submandibular duct system, we describe here the findings of videosialoendoscopic assessment of the salivary duct system in an infant who underwent traditional surgery for bilateral atresia of the orifice of Wharton's duct. During sialoendoscopy, a trifurcation of the main duct, a normal variant of the more common bifurcation of the secondary branches of the salivary duct system, was observed bilaterally.
