The advancement of and prospects for stem cell research raise a number of specific ethical issues. While navigating the ethical landscape of stem cell research is often challenging for biology researchers and biotechnology innovators, it is also difficult for the public and other persons of concern (from ethicists to policy-makers) to grasp the technicalities of a burgeoning field that develops in many directions. Organoids are one of these new biotechnological constructs that are currently eliciting a rich debate in bioethics.

Data from adult critically ill patients admitted with CAP or COVID-19 and the need for ventilatory support were retrospectively analysed. HFNC failure was defined as the need for invasive ventilation or death before intubation.

We aim to i) assess the 1-year mortality rate following pancreatectomy for PDAC, and ii) identify patient and hospital characteristics associated with 1-year mortality.
Methods: Data was extracted retrospectively from the French national medico-administrative database.
Background: Acute right colic diverticulitis (ARD) is less frequent in Western countries than acute sigmoid diverticulitis (ASD). We aimed to compare the management of ARD and ASD operated on in emergency.
Methods: All consecutive patients who had emergency surgery for ASD and ARD (2010-2021) were included in a retrospective, multicenter, cohort study.
In Streptococcus pyogenes, the type II fatty acid (FA) synthesis pathway FASII is feedback-controlled by the FabT repressor bound to an acyl-Acyl carrier protein. Although FabT defects confer reduced virulence in animal models, spontaneous fabT mutants arise in vivo. We resolved this paradox by characterizing the conditions and mechanisms requiring FabT activity, and those promoting fabT mutant emergence.

We aimed to assess whether the anatomy of the portal vein (PV) could influence the intrahepatic distribution of CRLM.
Patients And Methods: Patients with CRLM diagnosed between January 2018 and December 2022 at two tertiary centers were included and imaging was reviewed by two radiologists independently.
Bilateral macronodular adrenocortical disease (BMAD) is an uncommon cause of Cushing's syndrome leading to bilateral macronodules. Isolated BMAD has been classified into three molecular groups: patients with ARMC5 alteration, KDM1A alteration, and patients without known genetic cause. The aim of this study was to identify by NGS, in a cohort of 26 patients with BMAD, the somatic alterations acquired in different nodules after macrodissection from patients with germline ARMC5 or KDM1A alterations and to analyze potential somatic alterations in a panel of five other genes involved in adrenal pathology (GNAS, PDE8B, PDE11A, PRKAR1A, and PRKACA).

Our team recently decided to extend the indications for mini-laparoscopy to pregnant women requiring cholecystectomy in the late second and third trimesters when significant uterine height is a potential difficulty.
Methods: From January 2022, all patients who underwent MLC after five months of pregnancy were included in the analysis.
Common variable immunodeficiency is a heterogeneous symptomatic group of inborn errors of immunity that mainly affects antibodies production and/or function, predisposing patients to recurrent and severe infections. More than half of them usually develop autoimmunity, lymphoproliferation, enteropathy, and malignancies. Among these conditions, chronic lung disease such as granulomatous-lymphocytic interstitial lung disease is one of the leading causes of death in these patients.

Avoiding medical jargon in patient communication can improve poor outcomes associated with lower health literacy, but physicians may struggle to do so as health literacy education is neither standardized nor universal at US allopathic medical schools. As with other skills-based proficiencies in medical education, repeat exposure and active learning help build competency.

Our aim was to analyze the recent diffusion and adoption of MILS and compare the trends in indications, extent of resection, and institutional practice with open liver surgery (OLS).
Methods: We analyzed the French nationwide, exhaustive cohort of all patients undergoing a liver resection in France between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2022.
Aim: The aim of this work was to investigate the association between early postoperative anastomotic leakage or pelvic abscess (AL/PA) and symptomatic anastomotic stenosis (SAS) in patients after surgery for left colonic diverticulitis.
Method: This is a retrospective study based on a national cohort of diverticulitis surgery patients carried out by the Association Française de Chirurgie. The assessment was performed using path analyses.
This case report outlines the intricate management of rectal perforation following laser hemorrhoidoplasty in a 31-year-old female, leading to an acute abdomen, sepsis, and multiorgan failure. Urgent laparoscopic exploration and the establishment of a double-loop colostomy were undertaken, marking the beginning of a complex course characterized by relapsed pelvic sepsis. Laser hemorrhoidoplasty has gained widespread acceptance for its minimally invasive approach in treating hemorrhoids.

The current gold-standard method for EVs isolation requires an ultracentrifugation (UC) step among others. The cost and complexity of this technique are forbiddingly high for many researchers, as well as for routine use in biological laboratories and hospitals.

An anonymous online survey of 35 questions was sent to students enrolled in MSc of surgical science between 2013 and 2020. The questionnaire included student's characteristics, topic, and supervision of the research projects developed during the research year and dissemination of the research work.

Method: The primary outcomes were the rate of emergency surgery for sigmoid diverticulitis and its associated risk factors.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the capabilities of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in differentiating between lipid-poor adrenal adenoma (LPAA) and adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC).
Materials And Methods: Patients of two centers who underwent surgical resection of LPAA or ACC after multiparametric MRI were retrospectively included. A training cohort was used to build a diagnostic algorithm obtained through recursive partitioning based on multiparametric MRI variables, including apparent diffusion coefficient and chemical shift signal ratio (i.
Background: Although the incidence of BTC is raising, national healthcare strategies to improve care lack. We aimed to explore patient clinical care pathways and strategies to improve biliary tract cancer (BTC) care.
Methods: We analysed the French National Healthcare database of all BTC inpatients between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2021.
Aim: Anal fistula is one of the most common anal diseases, affecting between 1 and 3 per 10 000 people per year. Symptoms have a potentially severe effect on a patient's quality of life. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment, aiming to cure the fistula and preserve anal sphincter function.
