Geotechnical behavior of fly ash-coal ash and bentonite clay composite as a landfill barrier material with special emphasis on desiccation cracks.

Compacted clay barriers have been used to retard leakage of contaminated fluids from landfillsites. These liners may shrink, crack, desiccate and lose their integrity if the liner material doesn't have permeability (10 m/s), unconfined compressive strength (UCS = 200 kPa) and no desiccation cracks at all as per the CPCB-2001 and USEPA 1989 guidelines. These three parameters form the basis of utilizing any material as a liner material however bentonite clay (BC) due to excessive desiccation cracks upon drying and wetting events can't be used individually.

Study of COVID-19 Infection, its Severity and Outcome in COVID-19 Vaccinated People at Tertiary Health Care Center, North West Rajasthan.

Objective: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the causative agent of corona virus-induced disease 19 (COVID-19) that was declared as a global pandemic in March 2020 by the world health organization (WHO). Two vaccines were granted for emergency use by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in India, Covishield® (AstraZeneca's vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India) and Covaxin® (manufactured by Bharat Biotech Limited). Sputnik - V has been granted EUA in the month of April 2021.

A chronicle of SARS-CoV-2: Part-I - Epidemiology, diagnosis, prognosis, transmission and treatment.

In order to benefit the public, community workers and scientific community, we hereby present a chronicle of SARS-CoV-2 that leads to the unseen precedent of social distancing and lockdown owing to coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Information on this life-threatening pandemic of COVID-19 is sparse and discrete; and the urgency is such that the dissemination of information is increasing with numerous daily publications on the topic. Therefore, we developed a comprehensive review on various aspects of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19.

Catheter-related bloodstream infections.

Central-venous-catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) are an important cause of hospital-acquired infection associated with morbidity, mortality, and cost. Consequences depend on associated organisms, underlying pre-morbid conditions, timeliness, and appropriateness of the treatment/interventions received. We have summarized risk factors, pathogenesis, etiology, diagnosis, and management of CRBSI in this review.

Central Nervous System Cryptococcosis among a Cohort of HIV Infected Patients from a University Hospital of North India.

Background: Cryptococcus neoformans is a ubiquitous encapsulated yeast that causes significant infections which range from asymptomatic pulmonary colonization to the life threatening meningoencephalitis, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Cryptococcal meningitis is one of the AIDS-defining illnesses. Recent data have indicated that, the incidence of the cryptococcal infection is high in developing countries like India.

Burden of different beta-lactamase classes among clinical isolates of AmpC-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa in burn patients: A prospective study.

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common pathogens causing infections in burns, and shows increasing resistance to β-lactam antibiotics by producing different classes of beta-lactamases. It is also not unusual to find a single isolate that expresses multiple β-lactamase enzymes, further complicating the treatment options. Thus, in this study, we aimed to determine the coexistence of different beta-lactamase enzymes in clinical isolates of P.

Diabetic ketosis as a presenting feature of acromegaly.

Secondary diabetes mellitus is known to occur in acromegaly due to insulin resistance caused by growth hormone excess. However diabetes in acromegaly usually does not lead to ketosis. We describe here a case of acromegaly who presented in diabetes ketosis, which is unusual.
