Identifying and analysing isolated populations is critical for conservation. Isolation can make populations vulnerable to local extinction due to increased genetic drift and inbreeding, both of which should leave imprints of decreased genome-wide heterozygosity. While decreases in heterozygosity among populations are frequently investigated, fewer studies have analysed how heterozygosity varies among individuals, including whether heterozygosity varies geographically along lines of discrete population structure or with continuous patterns analogous to isolation by distance.

A 37-year-old G1 with ulcerative pancolitis initially did not disclose her medical history to the obstetrics providers. She developed worsening hematochezia and microcytic anemia and declined antepartum treatment of ulcerative colitis.

Links between Daytime Napping, Night-Time Sleep Quality and Infant Attention: An Eye-Tracking, Actigraphy and Parent-Report Study.

The current study explored the potential influence of infant sleep, measured by parental report and actigraphy, and family functioning on attention development using eye tracking. The use of actigraphy in parallel with parental report, has the advantage of measuring participant's sleep throughout the night without parental observation and the ability to objectively assess sleep quality. An eye-tracking version of the Gap-Overlap task was used to measure visual attention.

A Retrospective Study of Calcinosis Cutis in Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Calcinosis cutis (CC) is a very rare and poorly characterized finding in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).1 In this retrospective study, we present our experience of 10 individuals with SLE who developed CC, describing the epidemiology, diagnosis, and clinical characteristics of this rare entity.

While there have been many provenance studies in trees, less is known about local adaptation in herbaceous species, including the perennial grasses that dominate arid and semiarid rangeland ecosystems. We used a common garden study to quantify variation in growth and drought resistance traits in 99 populations of from a broad geographic and climatic range in the western United States.

Validation of phlebotomy performance metrics developed as part of a proficiency-based progression initiative to mitigate wrong blood in tube.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to (1) characterise the procedure of phlebotomy, deconstruct it into its constituent parts and develop a performance metric for the purpose of training healthcare professionals in a large teaching hospital and to (2) evaluate the construct validity of the phlebotomy metric and establish a proficiency benchmark.

Method: By engaging with a multidisciplinary team with a wide range of experience of preanalytical errors in phlebotomy and observing video recordings of the procedure performed in the actual working environment, we defined a performance metric. This was brought to a modified Delphi meeting, where consensus was reached by an expert panel.

Importance: First-line systemic therapy for morphea includes methotrexate with or without systemic corticosteroids. When this regimen is ineffective, not tolerated, or contraindicated, a trial of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or mycophenolic acid (MPA)-referred to herein as mycophenolate-is recommended; however, evidence to support this recommendation remains weak.

Assessing the Correlation Between Disease Severity Indices and Quality of Life Measurement Tools in Pemphigus.

Pemphigus, an autoimmune blistering disease that affects the skin and mucous membranes, adversely impacts patients' quality of life (QOL). While there are various QOL measurement tools that can be used in this disease, few studies have assessed how a patient's change in disease severity can affect their QOL. This study aims to identify which disease severity index correlates best with the change in QOL.

Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus Patients With a Negative Antinuclear Antibody Meeting the American College of Rheumatology and/or Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics Criteria for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Objective: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a disorder that is heterogeneous and can be difficult to diagnose. One hallmark of the disease is the presence of antinuclear antibodies (ANAs), a feature that has been incorporated into multiple classification criteria over the years. In this study, we used a database of patients with cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) to determine how many had a negative ANA and met criteria for SLE using the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and/or Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics (SLICC) criteria.

Developing classification criteria for skin-predominant dermatomyositis: the Delphi process.

Background: The European League Against Rheumatism/American College of Rheumatology classification criteria for inflammatory myopathies are able to classify patients with skin-predominant dermatomyositis (DM). However, approximately 25% of patients with skin-predominant DM do not meet two of the three hallmark skin signs and fail to meet the criteria.

Objectives: To develop a set of skin-focused classification criteria that will distinguish cutaneous DM from mimickers and allow a more inclusive definition of skin-predominant disease.

Auditory event-related potentials and function of the medial olivocochlear efferent system in children with auditory processing disorders.

Objective: The objectives were to investigate the function of central auditory pathways and of the medial efferent olivocochlear system (MOCS).

Design: Event-related potentials (ERP) were recorded following the delivery of the stimulus /da/ in quiet and in ipsilateral, contralateral, and binaural noise conditions and correlated to the results of the auditory processing disorders (APD) diagnostic test battery. MOCS function was investigated by adding ipsilateral, contralateral, and binaural noise to transient evoked otoacoustic emission recordings.
