Cancer and immune response: The role of PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint in laryngeal carcinoma. Preliminary results.

Purpose: The overall survival of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) hasn't changed significantly in the last decades, leading to a negative prognosis in advanced stages. So, the immunotherapy takes space with the inhibition of PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint, involved in suppression of immune response.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted on LSCC patients, selected according to strict criteria.

Smoking and alcohol habits in head and neck cancers: How many patients stop after diagnosis?

Background: Smoking and alcohol are the main risk factors for head and neck cancer. Despite the significant psychological impact, many patients continue to smoke and drink alcohol after diagnosis of cancer. This study aims to analyze the patients' behavior post diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancer.

Difficult intubation in ENT patient: Simultaneous videolaryngoscopy with flexible bronchoscopy. A combined approach. Case report.

Introduction: Difficult intubation is the situation when a skilled anesthetist has difficulties to manage airway using face mask, laryngoscopy, supraglottic device, tracheal intubation, surgery. Videolaryngoscope and flexible fibroscope (FFS) represent valid alternatives for difficult airway management, with some limitations. However, literature lacks of studies about the efficacy of the combined use of videolaryngoscope and FFS.

A pediatric case of Chlamydia psittaci caused severe Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) in Italy.

Background: This case of psittacosis in children, is the first described in literature, in Italy. This respiratory infection can be transmitted to humans from the inhalation of respiratory secretions, feces and plumage aerosol of infected birds (and other animals). Usually it can have an asymptomatic or paucisymptomatic course, and the onset is often flu-like, but in this case the child risked his life for a severe respiratory failure.
