Introduction: Cysts in the spinoglenoidal or supraglenoidal incisura can be a cause of compression of the suprascapular nerve. There is agglomerated appearance of these cysts in combination with SLAP lesions. Hypothesis is SLAP lesions can lead to cysts in this region and should be repaired.

The operative treatment of a posterior cruciate ligament rupture through a straight central approach in the hollow of the knee is described. Following evaluation of the different operative procedures used in our clinic during the years of 1977 through 1990, this is now the preferred technique. The purpose of this prospective clinical study is to evaluate the role of combination chemotherapy with rifampin in the treatment of orthopedic device-related infections in which the implant could not be removed. Eleven patients with orthopedic implant-related infections due to staphylococci or streptococci were treated with the implant in situ. Each antimicrobial regimen included rifampin in combination with a beta-lactam antibiotic or ciprofloxacin.

The results of treatment of chronic ligamentous insufficiency of the lateral hindfoot using plantaris tendon grafting (52 ankles) or peroneal tenodesis (128 ankles) were compared with an average followup of 66 months. In two-thirds of all cases an instability of the subtalar joint was present, isolated or combined with an instability of the talocrural joint. The overall outcome with both methods was good, but the results after plantaris repair were slightly more favorable.

The carcinogenic activity of seven metallic alloys was studied by implanting solid rods of each alloy in the gluteal muscles of Sprague-Dawley rats which were killed after twenty-four months. When the number of tumors in these rats was compared with the numbers in rats not operated on, in rats which had a sham operation, and in rats implanted with Silastic rods, no statistically significant differences in the incidences of the tumors in the several groups were found.
