The Dahl Concept describes the re-establishment of occlusal contacts after the provision of a planned localised appliance or restoration in supraocclusion. Initially developed to create space for prosthetic rehabilitation of anterior teeth suffering from localised wear, the principle has later been successfully applied to a variety of situations, including the Hall technique and resin-bonded bridges cemented in supraocclusion. Despite high levels of success seen in the relevant literature and widespread adoption in specialist care, the wider profession appears to be far more cautious in its use.

Methods: This study adapted the ensemble-based methodology of the baseline prediction model and focused on removing the silos in the claims databases. We applied the Super Learner machine learning algorithm (SLA) to learn a combined dataset consisting of 50% data from the Optum Date of Death database and 50% data from the IBM MarketScan Commercial Claims and Encounters (CCAE), and omitted the commonly used one-hot-encoding step and used multi-categorical variables directly in the feature engineering process.
This paper considers the role of the restorative dentist in the interdisciplinary management of patients with amelogenesis imperfecta. General restorative considerations as well as the techniques available are reviewed. Two clinical cases are described to illustrate this.

In this article we examine ways to avoid the common pitfalls of orthodontic management and the importance of adequate and timely liaison between the general dental practitioner and the multidisciplinary team.

This can be further complicated in a child due to cooperation and the ever-changing dentition. This paper looks at the ideals for management at various stages of the developing dentition but also considers the compromises which may have to be made depending on the child's ability to cope.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmelogenesis imperfecta (AI) is an inherited disorder that is associated with mutations in five genes (AMEL; ENAM; MMP20; KLK4 and FAM83H) with a wide range of clinical presentations (phenotypes). It affects the structure and appearance of enamel of all teeth, both in the primary and secondary dentition. In this review paper, we look at the epidemiology, classification, aetiology, clinical description and diagnosis of AI.

We aim to highlight the importance of these when making a diagnosis and the necessary treatment undertaken in general dental practice before considering referral to specialist services. We also provide guidelines to assist the referral of patients for periodontal treatment in specialist care settings.

Objectives: The primary objective of this study was to review the efficacy of BTA in facial aesthetics.

Data Sources: Medline, Cochrane Library and bibliographies of identified articles.
Study Selection: Studies of high methodological quality (systematic reviews or randomised controlled trials; RCT) were selected if considered use of botulinum toxin (BTX) either prophylactically or therapeutically, as an adjunct to dental implant therapy for temporomandibular disorders or for other maxillofacial conditions such as bruxism, masseteric hypertrophy, oromandibular dystonia or cervical dystonia.
Data Extraction And Synthesis: Only studies with high levels of evidence were evaluated.

Traumatic pseudolipoma is a term used to describe intra-oral herniation of the buccal fat pad. A tear of the buccinator muscle and buccal mucosa allows the buccal fat pad to extrude into the oral cavity. Initially, the lesion can suggest a more sinister cause, but a history of trauma, an absence of mass before the accident, anatomical site and fatty appearance should suggest a diagnosis of traumatic herniation of buccal fat pad.

The aim of this study was: (1) to produce a stain shade guide to aid the in vitro and in vivo stain assessment (2) to assess intra- and inter-examiner reproducibility of stain assessment using the stain shade guide.
Method: Using chlorhexidine and tea, perspex and acrylic teeth specimens were stained.
