Background: It remains unclear whether radiation therapy (RT) has an impact on the development of secondary primary cancer (SC) in rectal cancer (RC) patients, especially within the true pelvis.
Aim: To examine the incidence of SC in a population-based cohort of RC after surgical treatment with or without radiation therapy (RT, NRT).
Patients And Methods: The epidemiological cohort consisting of 13,919 RC patients with primary M0 stage diagnosed between 1998 and 2019 was collected from cancer registry data of Upper Bavaria.
If a mammography screening program (MS) is to be expanded, the benefit must be demonstrated for each additional age cohort. For the age interval between 40 and 80 years, the association between tumor-related and tumor-independent mortality of 21 2-year cohorts is modeled using up-to-date, valid data to determine MS outcome. Disease trajectories with and without biennial MS are extrapolated for each age cohort using the available data and knowledge on MS.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: Appendiceal neoplasms are rare subtypes of colorectal tumours that mainly affect younger patients some 20 years earlier than other colon tumours. The aim of this study was to gain more insight into the histological subtypes of this rare disease and include cases previously excluded, such as mucinous neoplasia.
Method: The cohort study included 1097 patients from the Munich Cancer Registry (MCR) diagnosed between 1998 and 2020.
Purpose: Growing primary breast cancers (PT) can initiate local recurrences (LR), regional lymph nodes (pLN) and distant metastases (MET). Components of these progressions are initiation, frequency, growth duration, and survival. These characteristics describe principles which proposed molecular concepts and hypotheses must align with.

However, some patients are diagnosed with limited (LD) or very limited (VLD, T1-2, N0-1, M0) disease and previous data suggest that surgical resection might improve outcomes in these patients. Most of the existing evidence comes from small case series.

Aim of this study was to determine the long-term impact of a full colonoscopy with polypectomy on colorectal cancer incidence in a large screening population.
Methods: In this prospective observational cohort study, a total of 10,947 colonoscopy screening participants from within the scope of the Munich Cancer Registry were consecutively recruited from participating gastroenterology practices and their subsequent colorectal cancer incidence assessed.
(1) Background: PRAME, NY-ESO-1, and SSX2 are cancer testis antigens (CTAs), which are expressed in testicular germ cells with re-expression in numerous cancer types. Their ability to elicit humoral and cellular immune responses have rendered them promising targets for cancer immunotherapy, but they have never been studied in a large and well-characterised cohort of soft tissue sarcomas (STS). (2) Methods: On a protein level, we examined PRAME, NY-ESO-1, and SSX2 expression in tumour tissues of 249 high-risk STS using immunohistochemistry.

A total of 228 patients (134 male [59%], 94 female [41%]) with histologically proven CRC and BM were classified into different groups according to extracranial metastatic patterns. Time intervals to metastatic events and survival times from initial CRC diagnosis, extracranial and intracranial metastasis were analyzed.

Since many patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage, treatment is still challenging and dependent on many tumor and patient specific factors. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to elucidate the expression rates and the prognostic value of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR) 1-3 in GEP-NENs.

Purpose: In breast cancer (BC), the duration of endocrine adjuvant therapies (AT) has been extended continuously up to 10 years. We present an alternative explanation for the effect, which could enable shorter treatments.
Method: The relevant literature on chemoprevention and (neo-)adjuvant therapy was reviewed.
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is usually diagnosed in chronic phase, yet there is a small percentage of patients that is diagnosed in accelerated phase or blast crisis. Due to this rarity, little is known about the prognosis of these patients. Our aim was to identify prognostic factors for this cohort.

The cell-surface receptor programmed death-1 (PD-1) and its ligand, programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1), have been detected in various cancer types. However, the analysis on gastroenteropancreatic neoplasia (GEP-NENs) is limited.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the data of the Munich Cancer Registry (MCR) and to compare pCT and nCRT in AEG patients.
Patients And Methods: A total of 2,992 AEG patients, treated between 1998 and 2014, were included in the study.
Large clinical cancer registries (CCRs) in Germany shall be strengthened by the German Social Code Book V (SGB V) and implemented until the end of 2017. There are currently several large cancer registries that support clinical data for outcome analysis and knowledge acquisition. The various examples of the Munich Cancer Registry outlined in this paper present many-sided possibilities using and analyzing registry data.

Methods: Survival was analyzed in 456 patients (24.3% ≥70 years) treated for CLM in a single center using Kaplan-Meier estimation of overall survival (OS), calculation of relative survival as estimate for disease-specific survival, and a Cox regression model.
Background: Hotspot mutations of the oncogenes BRAF and NRAS are the most common genetic alterations in cutaneous melanoma. Specific inhibitors of BRAF and MEK have shown significant survival benefits in large phase III trials. However, the prognostic significance of BRAF and NRAS mutations outside of clinical trials remains unclear.

Patients And Methods: We analysed the disease course of 444 patients from 15 German skin cancer centres.
Purpose: Besides classical colorectal adenocarcinomas (AC), mucinous adenocarcinomas (MAC) and signet-ring cell carcinomas (SC) occur. Controversy remains regarding their prognostic role. Aim of this study was to define prognostic and histopathological specifications of mucinous and signet-ring cell colorectal cancer.

Despite the still poor prognosis, standardised treatment has achieved improvements; nonetheless it is questionable whether all age groups have benefitted.

The aim of this evaluation was to assess, whether the certification of specialized units had any influence on their patients' outcomes and if a survival difference between CBC patients and non-CBC patients can be shown. This population-based analysis included cancer registry data from 32,789 operated breast cancer patients with no prior cancer diagnosis and with active follow-up.

Patients And Methods: In collaboration with the Munich Cancer Registry, pts with mCRC and BM who were diagnosed between 1998 and 2011 were identified. Survival from the time of first diagnosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) (OS-1), from the time of diagnosis of metastatic disease (OS-2) and of BM (OS-3) was calculated regarding (1) the temporal occurrence of extra- and intracranial metastasis (meta- vs.
Background: The study objective was to examine changes in prognosis and treatment of prostate cancer patients over 20 years and to evaluate their impact on survival.
Patients And Methods: 38,861 prostate cancer patients diagnosed between 1990 and 2010 and living in the catchment area of the Munich Cancer Registry were analysed.
Results: Pre-therapeutic prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing increased substantially in the early 1990s.
