Background: Atrioventricular block (AVB) describes an impairment of conduction from the atria to the ventricles. Although the clinical course of AVB has been evaluated, the findings are from high-income countries and, therefore, cannot be extrapolated to the Latinx population.
Objective: Evaluate the association between AVB and mortality.
A cohort of 110 adult individuals was analyzed to compare clinical characteristics of hospitalized patients who received antibiotics and developed Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) with those who received antibiotics and did not develop the disease in a university Hospital in Brazil. CDI was diagnosed by toxigenic culture and C. difficile isolates were characterized by PCR ribotyping.

Background: Electrocardiogram is the initial test in the investigation of heart disease. Electrocardiographic changes in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy have no set pattern, and correlates poorly with echocardiographic findings. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging has been gaining momentum for better assessment of hypertrophy, as well as the detection of myocardial fibrosis.
