Background: The current pandemic of COVID-19, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has resulted in significant morbidity and mortality primarily associated with respiratory failure. However, it has also been reported that COVID-19 can evolve into a nervous system infection. The direct and indirect mechanisms of damage associated with SARS-CoV-2 neuropathogenesis could affect our sensory functionality, including hearing and balance.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 24 individuals allocated into three groups: G1 (CP with gingivitis; n = 8), G2 (without CP and without gingivitis; n = 8), and G3 (without CP and with gingivitis; n = 8). The gingival index (GI) and simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S) were evaluated.
Dietary methionine restriction (MR) is normally implemented using diets formulated from elemental amino acids (AA) that reduce methionine content to ∼0.17%. However, translational implementation of MR with elemental AA-based diets is intractable due to poor palatability.

Method Of Study: Observational, exploratory, preliminary study. A total of 287 multiple IVF failure infertile patients were recruited.
Introduction: The Spanish Haematology and Haemotherapy Society organizes peripheral blood smear review scheme, focused on the evaluation of diagnostic proficiency of participants by blood cell morphology analysis. The objective was to evaluate the efficacy of this scheme as an educational tool to improve the diagnostic proficiency of the participants.
Methods: During 2011-2019, 54 peripheral blood smears, alongside with patient details such as age, sex, blood cell counts and relevant clinical information, were sent to an average of 125 ± 13 laboratories per year.
Aims: To evaluate the quality of life (QoL) and burden of primary caregivers of children and young adults (PCCYAs) with and without disabilities.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with sample composed of 336 PCCYAs with cerebral palsy (CP; n = 84), Down syndrome (DS; n = 84), autism spectrum disorder (ASD; n = 84), and without disabilities (control group: CG n = 84), matched by gender and age. The burden of caregivers was assessed with the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI), whereas QoL was assessed using the WHOQOL-BREF instrument.
When clients enter the therapy room they bring unique spiritual beliefs and values in with them; however, marital and family therapists (MFTs) often lack training to assist in this important area of diversity. Current training recommendations encourage therapists to explore their own spirituality to identify personal limitations that may occlude positive client outcomes; however very little information exists on the implementation and usefulness of this type of training. This article will describe a curriculum and report results from a qualitative study of students who participated in a reflexive spirituality practicum course offered in a COAMFTE accredited doctoral program at a private, religious institution.

For this reason, the Hematology working group from the European Organisation for External Quality Assurance Providers in Laboratory Medicine (EQALM) decided to perform a statistical study with the aim of establishing appropriate acceptance limits (AL) allowing harmonization between the evaluation procedures of European EQAS organizers.
Methods: Eight EQAS organizers from seven European countries provided their hematology survey results from 2010 to 2012 for red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), white blood cells (WBC), platelets and reticulocytes.

Aim: To evaluate the relation among gingival inflammation, salivary osmolality, levels of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, and s-IgA concentrations in children with spastic CP with or without cervical motor control in a cross-sectional study.
Design: Unstimulated whole saliva and the gingival index were collected in 37 and 34 CP children with and without cervical motor control, respectively. The data were dichotomized as follows: (=0) absence of gingival inflammation and (≥0.
Problem: Peripheral counts of CD16(+ ) NK cells have been well characterized in reproductive failure. However, not enough case-control clinical studies have been conducted to establish normal or abnormal CD16(+/-) values in the endometrium.
Method Of Study: Peripheral and endometrial NK cell counts by FACS, IL-6, and VEGF cytokines levels by ELISA were characterized in fertile women and unexplained infertility patients with implantation failures (UI-IF) during implantation window.
Problem: Considering the potential adverse effects of anticoagulation in abortion treatment, we investigate whether antioxidants might exert the same immunoprotection. Although the fertility properties of Vitamin E have been associated with its antioxidant capacity, its effect on cytokine balance during pregnancy is still unknown.
Method Of Study: Pregnant females from CBA/J × DBA/2 abortion model were orally supplemented with Vitamin E or inoculated intraperitoneally with enoxaparin.
Problem: Endometrial NK cells play a critical role in uterine vascularization producing angiogenic factors. Impact of ovarian stimulation on endometrial expression of NK cells and VEGF in normal fertile oocyte donors and the effect of endometrial injury treatment on these parameters have been investigated.
Method Of Study: Endometrial tissue was obtained from oocyte donors during natural and stimulated cycles.
Problem: Trophoblast invasion is a temporally and locally restricted process, which regulates implantation and oxygen arrival to the embryo through the dialog with spiral artery endothelium. Trophoblast factors with angiogenic potential are activated by hypoxia. Their capacities to induce proliferation, migration, and invasion of trophoblastic cells have been investigated.

Problem: Regulatory factors seem to be essential to achieve transition from implantation window to placental vascularization. A novel function of interleukin (IL)-6 in the promotion of Th2 differentiation and inhibition of Th1 polarization has been demonstrated. Considering that Th2 response promotes antibody synthesis, we postulate that IL-6 could be modulating the quality of this response during pregnancy by increasing the proportion of blocking asymmetric antibodies.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFEndometriosis, a chronic disease characterized by endometrial tissue located outside the uterine cavity, affects one fourth of young women and is associated with chronic pelvic pain and infertility. However, an in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology and effective treatment strategies of endometriosis is still largely elusive. Inadequate immune and neuroendocrine responses are significantly involved in the pathophysiology of endometriosis, and key findings are summarized in the present review.

However, the role of RANTES in pregnancy had not been established. Here we investigate RANTES regulation during early pregnancy and potential failures leading to losses of pregnancies.

Consequently, monitoring of laboratory performance by an external quality assessment scheme is strongly recommended.
