Background: The frequency of health-related information seeking on the internet and social media platforms has increased remarkably. Thus, the ability to understand and select accurate health-related information online, known as EHealth literacy, is crucial for the population. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate how eHealth literacy influences the critical analysis of oral health-related information obtained from the Internet and its influence on oral health-related behaviors.

Background: Orthodontic treatment makes the patient susceptible to the development of white spot lesions (WSL) due to the greater accumulation of bacterial plaque. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the preventive effect of two resin materials on the incidence of these lesions in the region adjacent to the fixed bracket bonded under a WSL-treated area by two resin materials.

Material And Methods: 36 extracted human molars presenting natural WSL were included.

Unlabelled: The effectiveness of at-home dental bleaching treatments depends on the time that bleaching products are in contact with the teeth surface and, consequently, on the adequate use of associated custom acetate trays.

Objective: This randomized single-blinded trial aimed to analyze if the daily usage time of these products influences the patient's compliance behavior when submitted to monitored at-home dental bleaching. Secondary outcomes were color change and tooth sensitivity.

Article Synopsis
  • This systematic review compiles data on patients with oral and maxillofacial metastases from unknown primary tumors, highlighting their demographic, clinical, and imaging characteristics along with survival information.
  • It includes 353 articles covering 413 patients, using various study types and assessing bias with established appraisal tools.
  • Key findings indicate that factors such as the number of metastatic sites and the origin of primary tumors correlate with survival, emphasizing that dentists play a crucial role in early diagnosis, which can enhance patient survival when metastases are isolated.

The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of a reciprocating file (Reciproc) and a rotary retreatment file (Mtwo retreatment [Mtwo-R]) for the removal of filling material during root canal retreatment. A total of 30 mandibular molars with a mesial root curvature between 20° and 40° were selected and prepared using a Reciproc R25 file. The canals were filled using the lateral condensation technique and a root canal sealer.

Objective:  The number of patients rehabilitated with dental implants has contributed to increased incidence of peri-implant diseases. Due to complex and difficult treatment, peri-implantitis is a challenge and an efficient clinical protocol is not yet established. Aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of two protocols for decontamination of dental implants surface.

Article Synopsis
  • - Vascular anomalies are common in the head and neck, particularly affecting the lips, tongue, mucosa, and palate, with a specific study observing a 4.8% prevalence of intraoral vascular anomalies (IVA) primarily in white women aged 61 to 70.
  • - Monoethanolamine oleate sclerotherapy (MOS) is a treatment option that was evaluated for 65 cases of IVA, with 27 patients undergoing the procedure, which involved 1-2 applications of 0.3ml of the solution, often diluted with local anesthetic.
  • - The results showed that 22 of the treated cases resolved completely, indicating that MOS 5% is a safe and effective treatment for larger lesions

Differential diagnosis among fibrous dysplasias, cemento-ossifying fibromas and cemento-osseous dysplasias is difficult, since there is considerable overlap of histologic features, but also extremely important, since they differ greatly in etiology, clinical behaviour, prognosis and terapeuthic approach. There is no data about the use of immunohistochemistry, a viable and accessible technique, for this purpose. The objective of this study was to investigate, comparatively, the immunohistochemical expression of major non-collagenous proteins (osteonectin [ON], osteopontin [OP], bone sialoprotein [BSP] and osteocalcin [OC]) of mineralized tissue extracellular matrix in 22 cases of fibrous dysplasias, 16 of cemento-ossifying fibromas and 16 of cemento-osseous dysplasias.

Patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment present more susceptibility to dental caries and the use of an orthodontic device increases this risk factor due to biofilm accumulation around the brackets. The objective of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strength to irradiated permanent teeth of orthodontic brackets bonded with conventional glass ionomer cement and resin-modified glass ionomer cement due to the fluoride release capacity of these materials. Ninety prepared human premolars were divided into 6 groups (n=15), according to the bonding material and use or not of radiation: CR: Transbond XT composite resin; RMGIC: Fuji Ortho LC conventional glass ionomer cement; GIC: Ketac Cem Easymix resin-modified glass ionomer cement.

Hemangioma is a benign vascular tumor that affects 3%-10% of the population and usually does not require specific treatment due to spontaneous regression. The purpose of this paper is to present a case report of a child having been born prematurely and diagnosed with hemangioma in the head and neck, emphasizing the dentofacial changes and treatment used to provide care. Severe fibrous scars were found in the perioral region and below the ear that limited the patient's ability to open her mouth.

Introduction: The increasing success rates for cancer patients treated with radiotherapy and the frequent occurrence of tooth loss during treatment have led to an increased demand for orthodontic treatment after radiotherapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate tooth enamel of irradiated teeth after the bonding and debonding of metal and ceramic brackets.

Methods: Ten permanent molars were cut into enamel fragments measuring 1 mm(2) and divided into an irradiated group (total dose of 60 Gy) and a nonirradiated group.

The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of educational materials on the denture hygiene and utilization habits of 70 adult volunteers who had been using complete dentures for at least 5 years. On the day they received new dentures, 32 patients were provided with an illustrated leaflet and verbal instructions on oral hygiene and utilization habits, while the remaining 38 participants were advised to continue cleaning and wearing their new dentures as they had their previous dentures. After a 6- to 10-week period, 66 of 70 subjects were interviewed about socioeconomic factors, denture hygiene, and utilization habits.
