Cardiac hypertrophy (CH) is an adaptive response to maintain cardiac function; however, persistent stress responses lead to contractile dysfunction and heart failure. Although inflammation is involved in these processes, the mechanisms that control cardiac inflammation and hypertrophy still need to be clarified. The NLRP3 inflammasome is a cytosolic multiprotein complex that mediates IL-1β production.

Alamandine is a recently described heptapeptide component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), and its effects are mediated by the receptor Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor D (MrgD) RAS represents an important link between obesity and its consequences by directly modulating the thermogenesis and brown adipose tissue (BAT) function. The alamandine/MrgD metabolic effects and signaling remain unexplored. In this context, the main goal of the present study was to assess the metabolic consequences of MrgD genetic ablation in C57BL6/J mice by evaluating brown adipose tissue RNA sequencing.

Article Synopsis
  • - Obesity is a complex disease that affects both maternal and fetal health, and maternal obesity during pregnancy poses additional risks to future generations.
  • - A study aimed to investigate the effects of a high-fat diet on the expression of RAS-related receptors in the uterus and placenta of pregnant mice, linking obesity to metabolic issues in offspring.
  • - Results indicated that high-fat diet-induced obesity in mice led to increased body weight and fat in their fetuses, correlating with altered expression of certain receptors related to the renin-angiotensin system.
