Compliance of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Companies to Good Manufacturing Practices in Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning Systems: The Case of Local Ethiopian Firms.

Good manufacturing practice (GMP) is a part of quality management that maintains product quality and manages it according to the criteria of fitness for use. The heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system comprises the equipment, technology, and procedure that ensure product quality through maintaining heat, ventilation, and coolness of pharmaceutical manufacturing firms. The aim of the study was to evaluate the GMP compliance of HVAC systems and assess the opportunities and challenges of improving these systems in pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in Ethiopia.

Kcv channels from plant viruses represent the autonomous pore module of potassium channels, devoid of any regulatory domains. These small proteins show very reproducible single-channel behavior in planar lipid bilayers. Thus, they are an optimum system for the study of the biophysics of ion transport and gating.

Adolescent nutrition in Nigeria: a systematic review.

In this systematic review, we scrutinise adolescent nutrition in Nigeria, focusing on dietary patterns, intake, and nutritional status. Through a systematic examination of observational studies across three major databases, we analysed data from 67,844 adolescents. Our exploration revealed 102 studies, predominantly cross-sectional, addressing various nutritional dimensions.

Psychedelic-assisted therapy for palliative care within a home treatment setting: A case report.

Key Clinical Message: This case study describes the feasibility and safety of psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) as a home-based intervention for a patient with throat cancer experiencing significant existential distress. The patient tolerated the intervention well. This case supports the feasibility and safety of PAT for patients with life-threatening conditions in a home setting.

Aseptic meningitis with recurrent headache episodes, vomiting, and central fever as first manifestation of isolated neurosarcoidosis: a case report.

Background: Neurosarcoidosis is a rare entity, usually within the context of systematic sarcoidosis. Isolated neurosarcoidosis and especially a manifestation with pachymeningitis is a notable rarity.

Case Report: A 26-year-old patient presented to the emergency department with acute onset, recurrent episodes of occipital headaches spreading over the whole cranium and vomiting without food consumption, for three days.

Health literacy - study protocol for LiSa cohort study.

Background: Health literacy is the degree to which individuals have the ability to find, understand, and use information and services to inform health-related decisions and actions for themselves and others, whether at home, at the workplace, in the community, marketplace, healthcare sector, or the political arena. The main aim of this project is to measure health literacy in the adult population living in the municipality of Leiria over the next 10 years. As secondary objectives it is intended to characterize anxiety and depression, metabolic risk and health behaviors in the same population and over the same period.

New methods to unveil host-microbe interaction mechanisms along the microbiota-gut-brain-axis.

Links between the gut microbiota and human health have been supported throughout numerous studies, such as the development of neurological disease disorders. This link is referred to as the "microbiota-gut-brain axis" and is the focus of an emerging field of research. Microbial-derived metabolites and gut and neuro-immunological metabolites regulate this axis in health and many diseases.

Moon-forming impactor as a source of Earth's basal mantle anomalies.

Seismic images of Earth's interior have revealed two continent-sized anomalies with low seismic velocities, known as the large low-velocity provinces (LLVPs), in the lowermost mantle. The LLVPs are often interpreted as intrinsically dense heterogeneities that are compositionally distinct from the surrounding mantle. Here we show that LLVPs may represent buried relics of Theia mantle material (TMM) that was preserved in proto-Earth's mantle after the Moon-forming giant impact.

[Complementary methods in the treatment of complex regional pain syndrome].

Background: Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) affects 10-15% of patients following injuries (fractures, surgery) to the outer extremities and people after a stroke. The affected area hurts, is inflamed and lacks strength, while mobility and sensitivity are restricted. Complementary medicine as part of integrative medicine offers additional effective treatment options.

Factors associated with women diagnosed with syphilis who received prenatal care in a primary healthcare unit.

Objective: To estimate the prevalence of syphilis and its associated factors in women who were treated at public maternity hospitals and received prenatal care in a primary healthcare unit.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 399 postpartum women. Interviews were conducted, and additional data were extracted from the pregnant woman's booklet, medical records, and printed tests.

Recent studies have demonstrated that dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE) induced a pro-inflammatory condition in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). However, the molecular mechanisms implicated in this condition are poorly understood. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate miR-155, miR-126, and miR-21 expression levels in PBMC exposed "in vitro" to DDE.

Aqueously altered igneous rocks sampled on the floor of Jezero crater, Mars.

The Perseverance rover landed in Jezero crater, Mars, to investigate ancient lake and river deposits. We report observations of the crater floor, below the crater's sedimentary delta, finding that the floor consists of igneous rocks altered by water. The lowest exposed unit, informally named Séítah, is a coarsely crystalline olivine-rich rock, which accumulated at the base of a magma body.

Association of gut-specific non-inflammatory T lymphocytes with chronic anorexia nervosa and constitutional thinness.

Objective: Previous studies of AN showed low-grade inflammation. Are low-grade inflammation and circulating lymphocytes associated with chronic conditions?

Method: Peripheric blood cytokines were measured using Luminex™ technology in a chronic AN cohort (mean = 67.42 months), compared to Constitutional Thinness (CT), Constitutional Obesity (CO), and Healthy Controls (HC).

Asymmetric Interplay Between K and Blocker and Atomistic Parameters From Physiological Experiments Quantify K Channel Blocker Release.

Modulating the activity of ion channels by blockers yields information on both the mode of drug action and on the biophysics of ion transport. Here we investigate the interplay between ions in the selectivity filter (SF) of K channels and the release kinetics of the blocker tetrapropylammonium in the model channel Kcv. A quantitative expression calculates blocker release rate constants directly from voltage-dependent ion occupation probabilities in the SF.

Antimicrobial effect of Casiopeinas® copper- and ruthenium-based compounds on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and in vitro cell viability onto osteoblasts cells.

Objectives: The present study aims to evaluate the antimicrobial property of Casiopeinas® copper- and ruthenium-based compounds against Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans serotype b (ATCC® 43,718™), as well as the cytotoxicity on an osteoblasts cell line of both compounds.

Material And Methods: The antibacterial effect of the copper-based compounds (CasII-gly, CasIII-ia) and the ruthenium-based compound (RuN-6) at four different concentrations was evaluated as the inhibition ratio of the bacterial growth after 48 h under anaerobic conditions, and the cell viability was measured through resazurin assay.

Results: The copper- and ruthenium-based compounds used for this assay were (CasII-gly, CasIII-ia, and RuN-6), showing inhibitory activity between 39 and 62% compared to the antibiotic employed as control 66%.

Formulation, Optimization and Evaluation of Fast Disintegrating Tablets of Salbutamol Sulphate using a Combination of Superdisintegrant and Subliming Agent.

Aim: The present research work was aimed to formulate fast disintegrating tablets (FDTs) of salbutamol sulphate (SBS) using a combination of a superdisintegrant and a subliming agent, optimize the formulation and evaluate the in vitro performance of the developed FDTs.

Materials And Methods: A formulation of SBS FDT was developed using a combination of superdisintegrant - crospovidone and subliming agent - Ammonium Bicarbonate (AB) in which formulation variables, namely levels of crospovidone and Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC):Mannitol (MNTL) ratio, were evaluated for their effects on the response variables, disintegration time, hardness, friability and wetting time, of the resulting FDTs. By employing Central Composite Design (CCD) methodology, the FDTs were optimized to achieve optimum levels of the formulation factors.

[Explaining Learning Disorders to Primary School Children: Evaluation of a Psychoeducational Lesson About Learning Disorders].

The pilot study investigates the effect of a one-hour psychoeducational lesson for primary school children about specific learning disorders. A pre-post-follow-up-design with waitlist control group has been used. The study examines whether third grade children's (N = 85) knowledge as well as classroom climate, social integration, and well-being could be improved through the psychoeducational lesson.

Development and psychometric properties of the general public's attitudes toward advance care directives scale in Portugal.

Vulnerability and Well-Being Decades After Leaving Care.

One of the most important goals of out of home placements is to reduce vulnerability and to enable well-being in the long term. This article hermeneutically reconstructs biographies decades after leaving-care to understand the impact of residential care experiences on selected dimensions of care-leavers' well-being, that were discovered in the data material. For this article three analytic areas were selected from the core of the narratives of former care leavers: Social networks, parenthood and state interventions.

Valorization of khat (Catha edulis) waste for the production of cellulose fibers and nanocrystals.

Cellulose fibers (C40 and C80) were extracted from khat (Catha edulis) waste (KW) with chlorine-free process using 40% formic acid/40% acetic acid (C40), and 80% formic acid/80% acetic acid (C80) at the pretreatment stage, followed by further delignification and bleaching stages. Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs40 and CNCs80) were then isolated from C40 and C80 with sulfuric acid hydrolysis, respectively. Thus, the current study aims to isolate cellulose fibers and CNCs from KW as alternative source.
