Background: Decision-making in lumbar surgery for degenerative conditions is influenced by various factors, including patient expectations and empowerment. The role of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in guiding these decisions is underexplored. This study aims to understand the perspectives of patients and spine surgeons in decision-making for lumbar surgery and explore their perspectives on the relevance and influence of pre- and post-surgery PROs.

Background: The increase in elective surgeries and varied postoperative patient outcomes has boosted the use of patient decision support interventions (PDSIs). However, evidence on the effectiveness of PDSIs are not updated. This systematic review aims to summarize the effects of PDSIs for surgical candidates considering elective surgeries and to identify their moderators with an emphasis on the type of targeted surgery.

Study Design: Single-center retrospective review of outcomes among three surgical techniques in the treatment of thoracic idiopathic scoliosis (T-AIS) with a follow-up of at least 5 years.

Objective: To investigate how outcomes compare in video-assisted anterior thoracic instrumentation (VATS), all hooks/hook-pedicle screw hybrid instrumentation (HHF), and all pedicle screw instrumentation (PSF) techniques for T-AIS.

Summary Of Background Data: Studies comparing outcomes for anterior versus posterior fusion for T-AIS are few and with short follow-up.

Study Design: Retrospective cohort study on prospectively implemented EOS protocol.

Objective: This study aims to audit and compare existing radiological definitions of gaze direction-chin brow vertical angle (CBVA), McGregor slope (McGS), slope of line of sight (SLS), orbital-internal occipital protuberance (OIOP) slope angle, and Tangent to the hard palate (THP) in a neutral, healthy, and asymptomatic cohort.

Summary Of Background Data: The ability to accurately define direction of gaze is the first step when striving for horizontal gaze restoration in any affected individual with rigid sagittal deformity.

Background: Posterior percutaneous spinal fixation (PPSF) has evolved to address the problems associated with metastatic spinal disease (MSD). This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility and spectrum of application of PPSF in the management of MSD, highlighting its clinical advantages.

Methods: Twenty-seven consecutive patients with MSD treated with PPSF in our institution from January 2011 to June 2014 were studied.

Background Context: The decision for operative treatment of patients with spinal metastases is dependent on the patient's predicted survival. Tokuhashi, Tomita, Bauer, and Oswestry scores have been devised for survival prediction; however, none of these systems have been evaluated in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

Purpose: To investigate the accuracy of these scoring systems in predicting survival and to identify prognostic factors for survival of the patients with spinal metastases from NPC.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has become an alternative treatment tool for a variety of spinal conditions in the last two decades. This endoscopic or "keyhole" approach minimizes the chest wall morbidity related to the traditional thoracotomy. The current indications for VATS are the same as in any open anterior spinal surgery.
