Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigated the long-term outcomes of 166 patients who recovered from cardiogenic shock using venoarterial extracorporeal life support (VA-ECLS) and were discharged without heart replacement therapy (HRT).
  • - Follow-up data showed a 1-year survival rate of 85.6% and a 5-year survival rate of 60.6%, with a significant predictor of increased mortality being a history of congestive heart failure.
  • - The findings suggest that patients discharged without HRT should have regular outpatient follow-ups due to the heightened risk of recurrent heart failure and mortality.

Background: Cerebral aneurysm initiation and evolution have been linked to hemodynamic and morphological factors. Stenotic morphology upstream to a bifurcation can alter hemodynamic patterns and lead to destructive vessel wall remodeling and aneurysm initiation. The effect of more subtle proximal variations in vessel diameter on bifurcation aneurysm development has not been evaluated.
