Introduction: Research shows that parental alcohol use predicts youths' alcohol use, but this intergenerational continuity may vary across countries, and little is known about its moderators. This study examined for the first time the intergenerational continuity in alcohol use in a population sample of families in Canada, and tested whether it varied by youths' sex, family income, or family structure.
Methods: We used prospective longitudinal data on 1632 families from the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD), a representative sample from the province of Quebec, Canada.
Background: The liver and celiac disease (CeD) share a complex relationship. While in some patients, isolated hypertransaminasemia is the only manifestation of CeD, liver diseases (LD) may also be associated with the presence of isolated tissue transglutaminase antibodies IgA (tTG IgA) without histologic evidence of CeD.
Aims: To examine the yield of tTG IgA testing (a) in the workup for chronic liver disease (CLD) or cytolysis and (b) to identify biopsy-confirmed CeD (BxCeD) among patients with concomitant LD.
A microfluidic system combined with substrate-integrated hollow waveguide (iHWG) vapor phase infrared spectroscopy has been developed for evaluating the chemical activity of volatile compounds dissolved in complex fluids. Chemical activity is an important yet rarely exploited parameter in process analysis and control. Access to chemical activity parameters enables systematic studies on phase diagrams of complex fluids, the detection of aggregation processes, etc.

We report a double-clad fiber coupler (DCFC) made from small inner cladding DCF that preserves optical sectioning in confocal microscopy while increasing collection efficiency and reducing coherent effects. Due to the small inner cladding, previously demonstrated fabrication methods could not be translated to this coupler's fabrication.
