Background: Macular amyloidosis (MA) could be of cosmetic concern with a significant psychological impact for patients, and its treatment is challenging.
Aim Of The Work: To compare the efficacy and safety of combined fractional CO laser with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) 50% versus fractional CO laser alone in the treatment of macular amyloidosis.
Patients And Methods: Twenty patients with macular amyloidosis were treated with monthly session of fractional CO laser only in one side of the lesion (area A), and fractional laser followed by application of DMSO 50% solution in the other side of the lesion (area B).
Background And Aims: The future development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients after sustained virologic response (SVR) is an important issue. The purposes of this study were to investigate pathological alterations in organelle of the liver of SVR patients and to characterize organelle abnormalities that may be related to carcinogenesis after SVR.
Methods: The ultrastructure of liver biopsy specimens from patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) and SVR were compared to cell and mouse models and assessed semi-quantitatively using transmission electron microscopy.

Optimal management for patients with pulmonary metastasis is still debated. True survival benefit from widely practiced pulmonary metastasectomy (PM) is yet to be proved from high-quality randomized controlled trials. The ideal surgical approach for PM is also not generally agreed.

Introdcution: There are sparse prospective studies investigating the role of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in management of pulmonary metastasis.
Aim: To prospectively investigate short-term surgical and pathological outcomes for PM patients operated on by VATS or open thoracotomy (OT) for management of lung secondaries.
Material And Methods: Between October 2017 and December 2020, patients undergoing pulmonary metastasectomy were recruited.
Chitosan has received broad consideration as an adsorbent for all pollutants because of its low cost and great adsorption potential. However, its shortcomings, including sensitivity to pH, poor thermal stability, and poor mechanical strength, limit its use. The functional groups of chitosan can be modified to enhance its performance by the grafting technique and Schiff base modification.

Animals respond to altered day length, the so-called photoperiod, with changes in physiology. The study aimed to an evaluation of sericin effect in alleviating steroidogenesis disorders induced by disturbed photoperiod in mice.

Strox and Voodoo are considered some of the most popular blends of NPS in the Egyptian drug market.
Objectives: The current study was conducted to assess NPS's use pattern: Voodoo and Strox among acutely intoxicated patients presented to the poison control center of Ain Shams University Hospitals (PCC- ASUH).
Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (NS) is one of the most common primary glomerular diseases in children. In this study, we investigate the association of single-nucleotide polymorphisms of nephrin gene and glucocorticoid receptor gene (NR3C1) and susceptibility to develop NS and the response to steroid therapy in 100 Egyptian children with NS using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. We also analyzed the correlation between the genotypes and clinicopathologic features of the patients.

Outbreaks contribute to economic losses, especially due to infection of pet birds, poultry, and livestock. Worse, the organism has a zoonotic effect, and transmission to humans results in severe illness.

Lupus nephritis (LN) is a common and serious complication of SLE which can progress to end-stage renal disease. Renal biopsy is the gold standard in the diagnosis and classification of LN, but since it is an invasive procedure, it is neither desirable nor applicable for all cases.

Materials And Methods: A split-split plot design in a randomized complete block arrangement was used with 3 replications. The main plots were allocated to the 2 potassium sources (potassium sulfate and potassium chloride) 3 potassium rates (60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1 K2O beside one treatment without potassium fertilization) were devoted to sub-plot and three patterns (1, 2 weeks and 1 month) were devoted to sub-sub plot.
There has been a spectacular rise in the global prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and cardiovascular disease is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. A variety of diastolic and systolic dysfunctions have been demonstrated in type 2 diabetic heart. The consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages has been linked to rising rates of obesity, which in turn is a risk factor for development of T2DM.

This study aimed at assessing the level of ang-2 as a marker of renal involvement in SLE patients to elucidate its correlation with disease activity and endothelial dysfunction.
Methods: This study included 81 subjects.
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is characterized by the presence of a BCR-ABL fusion gene, which is the result of a reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 9 and 22, and is cytogenetically visible as a shortened chromosome 22 (Philadelphia). Research during the past two decades has established that BCR-ABL is probably the pathogenetic pathway leading to CML, and that constitutive tyrosine kinase activity is central to BCR-ABL capacity to transform hematopoietic cells in vitro and in vivo. The tyrosine kinase inhibitor imatinib mesylate was introduced into the treatment regimen for CML in 1998.

A change in the replication pattern from synchronous in normal genes to asynchronous in DS amniocytes has previously been reported. The objective of this study was to evaluate additional molecular cytogenetic factors which could re-emphasize the high correlation between DS cells and genetic instability.

Telomeric regions of the human genome are of particular interest, because rearrangements of these regions are difficult to identify by conventional chromosome banding technology. With the advent of molecular cytogenetic techniques such as fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), it has been possible to investigate the terminus in cytogenetically visible terminal deletions and telomere rearrangements. We investigated telomere capture and aneuploidy rates in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) patients, as well as in healthy control subsets.

According to the survey 8.9 % of sample have already participated in a health related self-help group, 13 % stated to be informed about this topic but have not taken part in such a group.

By applying a fluorescence situ hybridization technique, we estimated the random aneuploidy rate of alpha-satellite (centromeres) probes from chromosomes 9 and 18. The monosomy and total aneuploidy rates were higher in the two study groups compared to the control group.

CGH was performed on seven apparent stage III ovarian serous cancer cases. Dissected tissue samples from the primary tumor and from the metastatic peritoneal implant were obtained at initial surgical staging and analyzed in each case.

The most common treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the alkylating agent chlorambucil (CLB), with or without prednisone. In the present study, our aim was to evaluate whether treatment with CLB for more than one year induced genetic changes manifested by comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) as new chromosomal aberrations. We also studied whether CLB affected the pattern of replication by using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

We compared the results to those from previous cytogenetic studies of fibroadenomas. In concurrence with previous cytogenetic studies of fibroadenomas, we detected genetic aberrations in chromosomes 4-6, 8-13, 16, 18, 19, 20, and 22.

Here the level of synchronization in replication timing of alleles was determined in subjects with Turner syndrome.
Methods: Fluorescence in situ hybridization was used for three loci not linked to X chromosome, in lymphocytes derived from 12 controls, 3 individuals with Turner, and 4 with mosaic Turner syndrome.

In this study, we used spectral karyotyping (SKY) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) as complementary techniques for the analysis of two therapy-related secondary myelodysplastic syndrome (t-MDS) cases with complex karyotypes, previously analyzed by G-banding. Different types of SKY's cytogenetic contributions include confirmation of G-banding results, identification of partially characterized rearrangements, identification of marker chromosomes unidentified by G-banding, and detection of cryptic reciprocal translocations. In particular, the ability of SKY to clarify a number of markers led to the comprehension of clonal evolution.
