In this study, we investigated von Willebrand factor (VWF)-related parameters in 30 patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) and 50 patients without CAD. In both groups, the following were measured: the VWF antigen level (VWF:Ag); the VWF ristocetin cofactor activity (VWF:RCo); the VWF collagen-binding activity (VWF:CB); and VWF-mediated platelet adhesion. Platelet adhesion was measured in whole blood at a shear rate of 1300 s using a microfluidic chamber with a collagen-coated surface.

Seventeen single nucleotide variants (SNVs) in the eleven most relevant genes, according to the COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative, were investigated. Our study confirms the validity of the influence of LZTFL1 and 2'-5'-oligoadenylate synthetase (OAS)1/OAS3 genetic variants on the severity of COVID-19.

Here we show that C-reactive protein (CRP), a soluble pattern-recognition receptor assembled noncovalently by five identical subunits, can instead trigger bystander activation of CD4 + T cells by evoking allosteric activation and spontaneous signaling of TCR in the absence of cognate antigens. The actions of CRP depend on pattern ligand-binding induced conformational changes that result in the generation of monomeric CRP (mCRP).

CRP is the final product of the interleukin (IL)-1β/IL-6/CRP axis. Its monomeric form can be produced at sites of local inflammation through the dissociation of pentameric CRP and, to some extent, local synthesis.

It is essential for platelet adhesion to the subendothelium of the damaged endothelial layer at high shear rates. Such shear rates occur in small-diameter arteries, especially at stenotic sites.

Currently, there are no available assays measuring the level of the monomeric form of CRP (mCRP), produced at sites of local inflammation. We developed an assay measuring the mCRP level in blood plasma with functional beads for flow cytometry.

Adhesion of blood cells to collagen I was measured at shear rate of 2300 sec. The interaction of platelet GPIIb/IIIa receptor with vWF was blocked with monoclonal anti-GPIIb/IIIa antibodies.

Methods: We developed a fluidic device that mimics blood flow in vessels. The method of detection of platelet adhesion is based on recording of a scattered laser light signal from a fibrinogen-covered surface.
The von Willebrand factor (vWF) is a plasma protein that mediates platelet adhesion and leukocyte recruitment to vascular injury sites and carries coagulation factor VIII, a building block of the intrinsic pathway of coagulation. The presence of ultra-large multimers of vWF in the bloodstream is associated with spontaneous thrombosis, whereas its deficiency leads to bleeding. In cardiovascular pathology, the progression of the heart valve disease results in vWF deficiency and cryptogenic gastrointestinal bleeding.

Blood was obtained from 14 patients with CAD 46 ± 13 years old and 8 healthy volunteers 49 ± 13.6 years old.

The degree of platelet adhesion was evaluated by the intensity of laser light scattered from protein-coated optical surface with adhered platelets. The intensity of adhesion in whole blood samples at high flow rates was by 2.

Aim: To determine if there are any differences between the peak exercise response during exercise treadmill testing with the individualized ramp protocol and the modified Bruce protocol in elderly patients.
Materials And Methods: The study included 40 patients (both male and female), aged 70 years and older, who had not had a baseline history of the confirmed coronary artery disease or heart failure diagnoses.
Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate important additional cardiovascular (CV) risk factors of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) during the first 30 days after index event.
Materials And Methods: Overall 750 patients with ACS were enrolled in the single center prospective registry from 2012-2015yy. 569 patients received dual antiplatelet therapy and in 425 cases platelet function testing (PFT) were performed.
C-reactive Protein (CRP) is an acute phase reactant, belonging to the pentraxin family of proteins. Its level rises up to 1000-fold in response to acute inflammation. High sensitivity CRP level is utilized as an independent biomarker of inflammation and cardiovascular disease.

The purpose of study is to investigate significance of detection of number of CD45-positive thrombocytes and ratio neutrophils/lymphocytes in evaluation of risk of development of re-stenosis after implantation of drug-eluting stents in patients with chronic ischemic heart disease and diabetes mellitus type II. The examination was applied to 126 patients with chronic forms of ischemic heart disease who passed through repeat coronary angiography during first year after implantation of drug-eluting stents. The patients were separated on two groups depending on availability of diabetes mellitus type II.

Platelets stimulated with platelet-activating factor are characterized by weak luminol-enhanced chemiluminescence in healthy people and patients after operations with laparoscopic incisions. Addition of platelet activation factor to platelet samples from patients after open abdominal surgery caused intensive chemiluminescence that was suppressed after platelet incubation with acetylsalicylic acid.

Platelets bearing leukocyte antigen CD45 were identified in the blood of patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and healthy donors by flow cytofluorimetry. Part of these platelets contained tissue factor (TF)-primary initiator of blood clotting. The number of CD45 and CD45/TF platelets in MI patients at the first day was comparable with their level in healthy donors, but was increased at 8-12 days after MI onset.
