Therapeutic Potential of Herbal Compounds in Curing Dysmenorrhea Naturally: A Review.

Dysmenorrhea being an effect of uterine contractions in the endometrium is a consequential health concern that may hamper a woman quality of life and disrupt everyday activities. It is described as pain throughout the menstrual cycle which is one of the most prominent causes of pelvic pain in women. Traditional medicine and Ayurveda has for centuries stipulated and employed herbs to treat a variety of illnesses.

Simulating transient X-ray photoelectron spectra of Fe(CO) and its photodissociation products with multireference algebraic diagrammatic construction theory.

Accurate simulations of transient X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) provide unique opportunities to bridge the gap between theory and experiment in understanding the photoactivated dynamics in molecules and materials. However, simulating X-ray photoelectron spectra along a photochemical reaction pathway is challenging as it requires accurate description of electronic structure incorporating core-hole screening, orbital relaxation, electron correlation, and spin-orbit coupling in excited states or at nonequilibrium ground-state geometries. In this work, we employ the recently developed multireference algebraic diagrammatic construction theory (MR-ADC) to investigate the core-ionized states and X-ray photoelectron spectra of Fe(CO) and its photodissociation products (Fe(CO), Fe(CO)) following excitation with 266 nm light.

Assessment of Endothelial Dysfunction by Brachial Artery Flow-Mediated Dilatation in Postmenopausal Women at Low Risk for Cardiovascular Disease.

Objective: The objective is to compare endothelial dysfunction measured by brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (BAFMD) in nonobese, nondiabetic post-menopausal women with their age-matched menstruating controls and to identify the correlation of BAFMD with Framingham risk score (FRS) and with the individual parameters of FRS in low-risk women.

Methods: This study was done in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Chandigarh, India, for 1 year. Fifty postmenopausal and 50 menstruating females aged 45-55 years who were nondiabetic and nonobese and were low risk according to FRS were selected as cases and controls, respectively.

From Psychiatry to Neurology and Endocrinology: A Case of Hypoparathyroidism.

A 31-year-old male patient developed extrapyramidal symptoms while on treatment for depression. He was investigated and found to suffer from hypoparathyroidism. He had calcification in the brain, signs and symptoms of neuromuscular irritability, and QT prolongation on electrocardiogram.

Rupture of Unscarred Uterus With Intestinal Prolapse From Vagina Following Criminal Abortion.

A 21-year-old unmarried and primigravida female indulged in criminal abortion at 18 weeks of gestation with the help of a village midwife. Instrumentation was done, and it led to uterine perforation with prolapse of 200 cm of small bowel through vagina. She was managed with resection of 160 cm of necrotic small bowel, repair of the uterine defect, and end jejunostomy, which was anastomosed with distal ileum three months later.

Scrub Typhus Leading to Acute Liver Failure in a Pregnant Patient.

Scrub typhus is a mite-borne rickettsial infection that presents with fever and a diverse array of complications. Lately, many epidemics have been reported from the Indian subcontinent. Data from these outbreaks suggest that liver injury in scrub typhus is common and reversible.

Study of Liver Dysfunction in Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

Introduction Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is said to occur when early pregnancy is complicated by excessive vomiting that leads to electrolyte imbalance, ketosis or loss of more than 5% of the bodyweight. It can be accompanied by deranged liver function tests (LFT), and most patients recover uneventfully with no fetal harm. Methods A retrospective study was conducted by evaluating records of 135 patients who were admitted or underwent day care for HG at our center over a period of 30 months.

Omental Infarction Imitating Acute Appendicitis.

A 26-year-old male patient with no significant past history presented with a two-day illness of nausea and abdominal pain, mimicking acute appendicitis. The appendix was poorly visualized on the ultrasound scan so a CT scan was done which revealed infarction of the omentum on the right side of the abdomen. The patient was closely monitored and managed conservatively with analgesics, fluids and antibiotics.

Tuberculosis Presenting as Hepatic and Splenic Microabscesses.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health problem in developing countries. It can affect any organ of the body, and can have a multitude of clinical presentations. We present the case of a 22-year-old male who presented with fever, abdominal pain, and weight loss, and was found to have enlarged liver and spleen, both studded with multiple microabscesses.

Hepatic and Renal Profile of Scrub Typhus Patients at a Tertiary Care Center in India.

Introduction Scrub typhus is a resurging zoonotic infection prevalent in South Asia with many recent outbreaks in India. It can mimic other tropical infections and the disease spectrum ranges from subclinical illness to life-threatening disease with multiorgan dysfunction. This study was conducted to study the pattern of hepatic and renal injury.

Type 2 Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome Presenting with Hyperpigmentation and Amenorrhea.

A 36-year-old female presented with lethargy, anorexia, nausea, hyperpigmentation, weight loss and amenorrhea for six months. On examination, she had hyperpigmentation of face, hands and oral mucosa. Investigations revealed adrenal insufficiency and subclinical hyperthyroidism with elevated anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies.

Endometriosis at Cesarean Scar Presenting As an Acute Abdomen.

A 30-year-old female presented to the emergency department with severe abdominal pain and vomitings during her premenstrual period. Abdominal imaging revealed a mass originating from the scar of cesarean section extending into the rectus muscle. The cesarean section was performed four years back.

A Mobile Prenatal Care App to Reduce In-Person Visits: Prospective Controlled Trial.

Background: Risk-appropriate prenatal care has been asserted as a way for the cost-effective delivery of prenatal care. A virtual care model for prenatal care has the potential to provide patient-tailored, risk-appropriate prenatal educational content and may facilitate vital sign and weight monitoring between visits. Previous studies have demonstrated a safe reduction in the frequency of in-person prenatal care visits among low-risk patients but have noted a reduction in patient satisfaction.

Marginal Iodine Status and High Rate of Subclinical Hypothyroidism in Washington DC Women Planning Conception.

Introduction: Subclinical hypothyroidism during pregnancy has been associated with adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. A subset of pregnant women in the United States have been shown to have mild iodine deficiency. No study has evaluated the thyroid and iodine status of women who are planning to become pregnant in the near future.

Analysis of quality measures includes important process measures such as time-out procedures, the Surgical Care Improvement Project, Peer Review, and Credentialing.

Anesthesiology Residents-as-Teachers Program: A Pilot Study.

Background: The role of residents as teachers has grown over time. Programs have been established within various specialties to formally develop these skills. Anesthesiology residents are frequently asked to provide supervision for novice learners and have numerous opportunities for teaching skills and clinical decision making.

Using a commercially available web-based evaluation system to enhance residents' teaching.

Background: Residents-as-teachers (RATs) programs have been shown to improve trainees' teaching skills, yet these decline over time.

Intervention: We adapted a commercial Web-based system to maintain resident teaching skills through reflection and deliberate practice and assessed the system's ability to (1) prevent deterioration of resident teaching skills and (2) provide information to improve residents' teaching skills and teaching program quality.

Methods: Ten first-year obstetrics-gynecology (Ob-Gyn) residents participated in a RATs program.

Lipomatous angiomyofibroblastoma: a case report of a unique vulvar mass.

Background: Vulvar masses are commonly biopsied in the outpatient setting. They may present as clinically benign masses, but the pathological evaluation and diagnosis is important in establishing the correct management.

Case: A 41-year-old El Salvadoran woman presented with a nontender vulvar mass of over 12 years' duration that had enlarged rapidly over the past 8 months.
