Repair of complex transposition of great arteries: What is the best technique to avoid outflow tract obstructions?

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the short-/mid-term outcome of patients with complex dextro (d)-/levo (l)-transposition of the great arteries (TGA), ventricular septal defect and left ventricular outflow tract obstructions.

Methods: A single-centre, retrospective review of all complex dextro-TGA (n = 85) and levo-TGA (n = 22) patients undergoing different surgeries [Arterial switch operation + left ventricular outflow tract obstruction-resection (ASO-R), half-turned truncal switch/Mair (HTTS), Nikaidoh and Rastelli] between May 1990 and September 2022 was performed. Groups were analysed using Kruskal-Wallis test with post hoc pairwise comparison and Kaplan-Meier time-to-event models.

Principles for task shifting hypertension and diabetes screening and referral: a qualitative study exploring patient, community health worker and healthcare professional perceptions in rural Uganda.

Background: A shortage of healthcare workers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) combined with a rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like hypertension and diabetes mellitus has resulted in increasing gaps in care delivery for NCDs. As community health workers (CHWs) often play an established role in LMIC healthcare systems, these programs could be leveraged to strengthen healthcare access. The objective of this study was to explore perceptions of task shifting screening and referral for hypertension and diabetes to CHWs in rural Uganda.

Limited data are available on the predisposing factors to fractures and falls of patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Our study intended to explore the differences between PsA patients and controls, concerning bone mineral density (BMD), the 10-year fracture risk, the number of prevalent fractures, the frequency of falls and to investigate the association of the same factors with PsA disease characteristics within the PsA group. Medical reports of 61 PsA patients and 69 consecutive, age-matched controls were analyzed, physical examination and bone mineral density (BMD, and T-score) were performed, and the 10-year fracture risk was calculated.

Impact of magnetic resonance-guided versus conventional radiotherapy workflows on organ at risk doses in stereotactic body radiotherapy for lymph node oligometastases.

Background And Purpose: Magnetic resonance (MR)-linac delivery is expected to improve organ at risk (OAR) sparing. In this study, OAR doses were compared for online adaptive MR-linac treatments and conventional cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)-linac radiotherapy, taking into account differences in clinical workflows, especially longer session times for MR-linac delivery.

Pheochromocytomas are rare neuroendocrine tumors of the adrenal gland, whereas any extra-adrenal tumor with similar histology is designated as paraganglioma. These tumors have a very high rate of germline mutations in a large number of genes, up to 35% to 40%, frequently predisposing for other tumors as well. A recent Phase 3 study of newly diagnosed glioblastoma (GBM) demonstrated the addition of tumor treating fields (TTFields) to temozolomide (TMZ) after combined radiation/TMZ significantly increased survival and progression free survival. Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the utility and clinical impact of second-opinion interpretations of outside neuroimaging studies by oncologic neuroradiologists at a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of initial outside and second-opinion radiology reports from 300 computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging studies and identified cases with discrepancies between the two reports. An adult neuro-oncologist, pediatric neuro-oncologist, and head and neck surgeon reviewed each pair of discrepant reports based on their area of expertise, patient age, and the type of study performed.

Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced MRI in Low-Grade Versus Anaplastic Oligodendrogliomas.

Background And Purpose: Low-grade and anaplastic oligodendrogliomas are often difficult to differentiate on the basis of conventional MR imaging characteristics. The authors show that the dopamine D3 antagonist SB-277011-A consistently and persistently decrease binge-like EtOH consumption at 30 mg/kg and it decreases binge-like consumption on days 3, 7, 9, and 11-13 at 15 mg/kg.
