A total of 286 convalescents after toxico-infections caused by opportunistic microorganisms were examined. The panel of anti-HLA sera permitted the typing of 34 HLA antigens, class 1. As a result, the development of the disease was found to be directly associated with antigen HLA-B17 and inversely with antigen HLA-A2.

The immune status was investigated in 97 patients with multiple sclerosis. Patients of this group showed marked changes at the cellular lever of the immune system. T-lymphocytopenia was accompanied by a dysbalance of the main correlative cells according to a relatively hyposuppressor variant of immune deficit with formation of circulating immune complexes and thermodependent lymphocytotoxic autoantibodies.

A total of 192 patients with Flexner's dysentery 1 have been examined. As a result, sharply pronounced unbalance of cell-mediated and humoral immunity factors has developed in the acute period of dysentery, reaching its maximal manifestations in severe course of the disease. In case of a tendency to a prolonged course of dysentery at the period of convalescence, essential shifts in immunological characteristics persist and the infective agent is repeatedly isolated.

As many as 111 patients with multiple sclerosis were subjected to clinical and functional examinations twice: on admission to the hospital and after immunocorrective therapy. The patients were discovered to have alterations in cellular immunity. During exacerbation, there was a decline of suppressors and a rise of the content of B lymphocytes.

The distribution of the antigens of the HLA system in 517 erysipelas patients, constant residents of Voroshilovgrad and the adjoining region (the Ukrainian SSR), has been studied. The HLA system has been found to take part in the formation of predisposition to erysipelas and its clinical forms. Predisposition to erysipelas infection has a polygenic nature and is associated with antigens HLA-A2, B5, B12, Bw35.

Increased levels of circulating immune complexes (CIC) have been revealed in 156 patients suffering from erysipelas and chronic eczema, 109 of these with frequent recurrences of erysipelatous inflammation, during all periods of the disease. The maximal rises of CIC levels have been associated with a combination of erysipelas relapse with eczema exacerbation, with the most pathogenic medium- and low-molecular complexes, making up together 80.4 +/- 4% of CICs, predominating in the blood.
