Background: Open repair of aortic aneurysms frequently requires reimplantation of major aortic vessels. Traditional techniques can be time consuming, require meticulous hemostasis, and risk aneurysmal patch degeneration, which can require a challenging reoperation. We describe our experience using a stent graft to create a sutureless anastomosis that obviates these drawbacks.

Direct Processing of PVD Hard Coatings via Focused Ion Beam Milling for Microinjection Molding.

Hard coatings can be applied onto microstructured molds to influence wear, form filling and demolding behaviors in microinjection molding. As an alternative to this conventional manufacturing procedure, "direct processing" of physical-vapor-deposited (PVD) hard coatings was investigated in this study, by fabricating submicron features directly into the coatings for a subsequent replication via molding. Different diamondlike carbon (DLC) and chromium nitride (CrN) PVD coatings were investigated regarding their suitability for focused ion beam (FIB) milling and microinjection molding using microscope imaging and areal roughness measurements.

Re-envisioning Kangaroo Mother Care Implementation Through a Socioecological Model: Lessons From Malawi.

Introduction: Kangaroo mother care (KMC) is a critical strategy to care for preterm and low birth weight infants in resource-limited settings. Despite evidence of its effectiveness and low cost, coverage has remained low, largely due to sociocultural barriers. We aimed to better understand social norms and community perceptions of preterm infants and KMC (facility-initiated and community-continued) in Malawi, a country with a high preterm birth rate, to inform a pilot social and behavior change program.

Therefore, FIB/FEB technology is a favorable technique for preparing TEM lamellae, nanocontacts, or nanowires and repairing electronic circuits. This work investigates FIB/FEB technology as a tool for nanotip fabrication and quantum mechanical tunneling applications at a low tunneling voltage.

Utility of Routine Head Ultrasounds in Infants on Extracorporeal Life Support: When is it Safe to Stop Scanning?

Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) can be a devastating complication of extracorporeal life support (ECLS); however, studies on the timing of ICH detection by head ultrasound (HUS) are from 2 decades ago, suggesting ICH is diagnosed by day 5 of ECLS. Given advancements in imaging and critical care, our aim was to evaluate if the timing of ICH diagnosis in infants on ECLS support has changed. Patients <6 months old undergoing ECLS 2011-2020 at a tertiary care children's hospital were included.

The purpose of this study is to address the question of whether material flow cost accounting (MFCA) can contribute to the circular economy. Because MFCA is an environmental management accounting tool that simultaneously assesses company material and financial flows, it is expected to contribute to the circular economy by assisting companies to achieve both environmental and economic goals through resource efficiency. In short, the expected linkages between MFCA, company environmental and economic goals, and the circular economy are inputs, outputs, and outcomes.

Characterization and Benchmark of a Novel Capacitive and Fluidic Inclination Sensor.

In this paper, a fluidic capacitive inclination sensor is presented and compared to three types of silicon-based microelectromechanical system (MEMS) accelerometers. MEMS accelerometers are commonly used for tilt measurement. They can only be manufactured by large companies with clean-room technology due to the high requirements during assembly.

Results after Repair of Functional Tricuspid Regurgitation with a Three-Dimensional Annuloplasty Ring.

Background: Tricuspid valve (TV) repair is the recommended treatment for severe functional tricuspid regurgitation (fTR) in patients undergoing left-sided surgery. For this purpose, a wide range of annuloplasty devices differing in form and flexibility are available. This study reports the results using a three-dimensional annuloplasty ring (Medtronic, Contour 3D Ring) for TV repair and analysis of risk factors.

Monitoring the implementation and scale-up of a life-saving intervention for preterm and small babies: Facility-based Kangaroo Mother Care.

Background: Kangaroo mother care (KMC) is an evidence-based intervention with large protective effects on neonatal mortality and morbidity, especially among small babies. Despite the available evidence, KMC adoption, implementation and scale-up has lagged. The purpose of this paper is to inform current and future KMC implementation by identifying achievements and challenges in countries that are in the process of scaling up KMC.

Background: Although rare, coronary artery anomalies can have significant clinical implications. Total anomalous origin of the coronary arteries from the pulmonary artery (TCAPA) represents a rare subtype of coronary artery anomaly for which little is known. The aim of this review was to characterise the presentation, utilised diagnostic modalities, associated cardiac lesions, and treatment strategies in patients with TCAPA.

Background/aim: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) degrade extracellular matrix and process regulatory proteins. Recently, a membrane-bound 82kDa variant of proMMP-9 identified on myeloid blasts was shown to be associated with prognosis.

Patients And Methods: To investigate the role of 82kDa proMMP-9 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and chronic lymphoid leukemia (CLL), we performed flow-cytometry analysis of expression on ALL blasts (n=18) and CLL lymphocytes (n=21) from blood and correlated data with clinical parameters.

Anomalous origin of the circumflex or left anterior descending artery from the pulmonary artery (ACxAPA and ALADAPA, respectively) are rare congenital coronary anomalies with clinical presentation varying from an asymptomatic murmur to sudden cardiac arrest. A systematic review was performed, and 46 cases of ACxAPA and 51 cases of ALADAPA were identified in 87 articles. Data were collected and analyzed from each case.
