Its management is still a matter of debate, with countries considering streptococcal pharyngotonsillitis a benign and self-limiting condition and others advocating for its antibiotic treatment to prevent suppurative complications and acute rheumatic fever. Italian paediatricians frequently prescribe antibiotics on a clinical basis regardless of microbiological results.

This report details the case of a 47-year-old male with a history of mechanical prosthetic aortic valve replacement, presenting with pyrexia and diagnosed with aortic bioprosthetic endocarditis leading to a massive aortic pseudoaneurysm. This shows that 3D transesophageal echocardiography is much more useful than regular 2D imaging for finding problems with IE, which makes surgical planning and intervention more precise.

Treatment options for metastatic cutaneous SCC in very elderly patients are limited due to concerns about treatment tolerability and potential adverse effects.
Case Report: We report the case of a 90-year-old female patient with metastatic cutaneous SCC who was treated with cemiplimab, a monoclonal antibody (m-Ab) against programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1), in combination with radiotherapy.
Objectives: The study focused on the ability to predict the need and size of femoral and tibial augmentation using standard two-dimensional (2D) templates and models created with three-dimensional (3D) printing in surgical planning.
Patients And Methods: This observational cohort study included 28 consecutive patients (22 females, 6 males; mean age: 71±7.3 years; range, 54 to 82 years) with periprosthetic joint infection recruited between March 2021 and September 2023 undergoing revision total knee arthroplasty revision (TKA).
: This study aims to evaluate the patellar height changes after distal femur (DF) endoprosthetic replacement (EPR) and its impact on anterior knee pain (AKP) and range of motion (ROM). A retrospective review of three institutions' databases was performed. The patellar height was determined using the modified Insall-Salvati ratio (MIS), the Blackburne-Peel (BP) and the Caton-Deschamps (CD) indexes.

Purpose: The purpose of our study is to describe a magnetic resonance imaging quantitative parameter to assess the morphology of the trochlea that could be measurable from normal to high-grade trochlear dysplasia while evaluating the most proximal slice with trochlear cartilage.
Methods: Two groups of patients have been compared: patients with no patellofemoral pain, no previous trauma and undergoing surgery for a suspected isolated meniscal tears (group A) and patients with objective patellar instability (group B). The cranial trochlear orientation (CTO) angle is defined as the angle between the posterior bicondylar line and the most lateral and most medial points on the subchondral bone covered by cartilage digitised on the first and most cranial image with the trochlear cartilage clearly visible.
Patients with epilepsy are prone to cognitive decline, depression, anxiety and other behavioral disorders. Cognitive comorbidities are particularly common and well-characterized in people with temporal lobe epilepsy, while inconsistently addressed in epileptic animals. Therefore, the aim of this study was to ascertain whether there is good evidence of cognitive comorbidities in animal models of epilepsy, in particular in the rat pilocarpine model of temporal lobe epilepsy.

In the absence of an effective treatment strategy, it is important to identify factors that can protect against progression to dementia. In this field, it is hypothesized that one aspect that may be a protective factor against the neurotypical outcome of dementia is cognitive reserve (CR).

The outbreak reflects increased circulation of and non-adherence to immunisation recommendations during pregnancy. Public health interventions, including maternal immunisation, vaccination of infants as early as possible and post-exposure prophylaxis, are critical for reducing the burden of pertussis and preventing further mortality.

Hypothesis: To evaluate IGla300 in client-owned diabetic dogs monitored using a flash glucose monitoring system (FGMS).
Animals: Ninety-five client-owned diabetic dogs, newly diagnosed or previously treated with other insulin formulations, with or without concurrent diseases.
Background: Recent systematic reviews on the outcomes of sulcus-deepening trochleoplasty with adjuvant medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction at a follow-up of 2 to 6 years have found that the procedure grants good clinical outcomes with low redislocation rates. However, there is a lack of evidence in the literature regarding mid- and long-term follow-ups.
Purpose: To evaluate the radiographic and clinical outcomes of thick-flap sulcus-deepening trochleoplasty with MPFL reconstruction at a minimum follow-up of 10 years to assess the signs of patellofemoral arthritis, incidence of recurrent dislocation, and grade of patient satisfaction.
Infective endocarditis (IE) diagnosis is based on a clinical suspicion supported by consistent microbiological and instrumental data. Evidence of involvement of cardiac valves (native or prosthetic) or prosthetic intracardiac material is a major diagnostic criterion of IE. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is the initial technique of choice for the diagnosis while transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is recommended in patients with an inconclusive or negative TTE, in patients with high suspicion of IE, as well as in patients with a positive TTE, in order to document local complications.

Co-production, a key aspect of the recovery-oriented approach, emphasizes collaboration and active participation of people with mental health first-hand experience, family members, and citizens. Even though studies on co-production are limited and fragmented, there is evidence that co-production leads to positive outcomes, including improved well-being, empowerment, social connectedness, inclusion, and personal competencies.

Herein, we report four cases of pediatric patients admitted for ABSSSI and managed with a combination antibiotic regimen incorporating dalbavancin: a second-generation lipoglycopeptide active against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant . In our experience, particularly in a setting with a high methicillin-resistance rate, dalbavancin demonstrated safety and efficacy, simplifying ABSSSI management in childhood.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTotal alpha and beta activities and Rn-222 concentrations were determined in water from different sections of seven aqueducts belonging to the water supply system of Campania region (Italy), known worldwide for its volcanism. Statistical analysis was performed on data to account for their variability across the aqueduct sections, and results were discussed considering the geology of reservoirs, the potential mixing processes occurring along the pipe network, the building/constituting materials of the aqueduct sections, and the integrity of the infrastructure. Guidelines proposed by Italian and international regulation entities were considered to determine if total alpha and beta activities and Rn-222 concentrations found at the taps of the different aqueducts should be considered detrimental to public health.
