Objective: Literacy skill development in deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) children is essential for success in school and beyond. Our objective was to evaluate the association between age of early intervention (EI) enrollment for DHH children and emergent literacy in preschool.
Methods: This was a population-based study that leveraged state public health and education data on all children identified with hearing loss.
Background: Children who are deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH) have improved language outcomes when enrolled in early intervention (EI) before the age of 6 months. Little is understood about the long-term impact of EI on outcomes of kindergarten readiness (K-readiness).
