The research-to-practice gap is a well-known phenomenon. The adoption of evidence into clinical practice needs to consider the complexity of the health care system and a multitude of contextual issues. Research evidence is usually a form of extrinsic motivation for practice change, but works best when it aligns with the intrinsic values of the system and the people in it.

Background: Nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) c-Rel is a psoriasis susceptibility locus, however mechanisms underlying c-Rel transactivation during disease are poorly understood. Inflammation in psoriasis can be triggered following Toll-like Receptor 7 (TLR7) signalling in dendritic cells (DCs), and c-Rel is a critical regulator of DC function. Here, we studied the mechanism of TLR7-induced c-Rel-mediated inflammation in DCs.

  • Decreased activity of the SLC26A4 protein, critical for ear fluid balance, is linked to hearing loss.
  • Researchers found that the μ2 subunit of the AP-2 complex plays a key role in controlling SLC26A4's presence at the cell membrane where it helps reabsorb endolymph in the inner ear.
  • By blocking clathrin-mediated endocytosis, they showed that more SLC26A4 accumulates on cell surfaces, suggesting that the SLC26A4-μ2 interaction directly influences how much SLC26A4 is available where it’s needed.

Rationale: A recent study by our group found that women displayed greater attentional bias to alcohol-related cues during the late versus early follicular phase in both sober and intoxicated states, suggesting a greater risk of excessive drinking among women during this phase. Changes in attentional bias as a function of menstrual cycle phase raise questions about potential sex differences in the relative consistency by which women and men display attentional bias to alcohol over time.

Objectives: The present study tested sex differences in attentional bias to alcohol by comparing the change in women's attentional bias from early to late follicular phase to that observed in men over the same period.

Parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic was an unprecedented experience for many families around the world. With the sudden closure of schools and child care centers and the implementation of stay-at-home orders, parents were required to adjust to a new normal, one that required them to take on numerous responsibilities, all with diminished levels of social support. These changes resulted in a wide range of experiences, from feelings of overwhelm and stress to gratitude for time that was often not a reality in the hustle-bustle of everyday life in pre-pandemic times.

Sequencing the tyrosine phosphoproteome using MS-based proteomics is challenging due to the low abundance of tyrosine phosphorylation in cells, a challenge compounded in scarce samples like primary cells or clinical samples. The broad-spectrum optimisation of selective triggering (BOOST) method was recently developed to increase phosphotyrosine sequencing in low protein input samples by leveraging tandem mass tags (TMT), phosphotyrosine enrichment, and a phosphotyrosine-loaded carrier channel. Here, we demonstrate the viability of BOOST in T cell receptor (TCR)-stimulated primary murine T cells by benchmarking the accuracy and precision of the BOOST method and discerning significant alterations in the phosphoproteome associated with receptor stimulation.

Rarely are youth voices incorporated into program and policy development. Youth participatory action research (YPAR) is an opportunity for adolescents to develop research skills by completing projects relevant to their lives and allows participation and decision-making at systems and organizational levels. Attention to YPAR implementation detail, especially a curricular focus, is lacking in the literature.

Point of care (POC) diagnostic devices provide a method for rapid accurate identification of disease through analysis of biologically relevant substances. This review focuses on the utility of POC testing for early detection of periodontitis, a critical factor in treating the disease. Accessing the oral cavity for biological sampling is less invasive when compared to other internal test sites, and oral fluids contain biomarkers indicative of periodontitis.

Ferroptosis is a form of regulated cell death that can be modulated by small molecules and has the potential for the development of therapeutics for oncology. Although excessive lipid peroxidation is the defining hallmark of ferroptosis, DNA damage may also play a significant role. In this study, a potential mechanistic role for MIF in homologous recombination (HR) DNA repair is identified.

The rate of cesarean section (CS) for delivery has increased internationally, reaching 50% in some countries. Abnormal implantation of a new pregnancy at the site of the prior hysterotomy is an important complication because of the risks of hemorrhage, uterine rupture, and progression to placenta accreta spectrum (PAS), a condition with high morbidity with potential for catastrophic obstetric hemorrhage, maternal and fetal mortality, and loss of fertility. Cesarean scar ectopic pregnancy (CSEP) is the recommended term to describe these pregnancies, which are recognized on the basis of the sac implantation site, growth pattern, and associated abnormal perfusion.

Adolescents' supportive relationships with nonparental adults are beneficial when they are close and have trust, but few studies explore how adolescents believe closeness and trust unfold over time. I propose a method for prompting adolescents to retrospectively describe the development of abstract components of such relationships by sharing a study that used interviewee-created graphing to prompt adolescents to move from concrete parts of the relationship to abstract concepts using a tool adolescents would be familiar with from math classes. Analyses using Venn diagrams and matrices suggested adolescents conceptualized closeness and trust differently, however, this was shaped by whether the adult was a part of their family.

We report the observation of longitudinal filamentation of an electron-positron pair plasma in a beam-driven QED cascade. The filaments are created in the "pair-reflection" regime, where the generated pairs are partially stopped and reflected in the strong laser field. The density filaments form near the center of the laser pulse and have diameters similar to the laser wavelength.

Linguistic alignment, the tendency of speakers to share common linguistic features during conversations, has emerged as a key area of research in computer-supported collaborative learning. While previous studies have shown that linguistic alignment can have a significant impact on collaborative outcomes, there is limited research exploring its role in K-12 learning contexts. This study investigates syntactic and lexical linguistic alignments in a collaborative computer science-learning corpus from 24 pairs (48 individuals) of middle school students (aged 11-13).
