Objective: This study examined whether the structure of consultations in which physicians were tasked with sharing information corresponded to the chronological stages proposed by an established educational model of clinical communication.

Method: Seventy six simulated consultations from a postgraduate examination for general medical hospital physicians were transcribed verbatim and converted into diagrams showing consultation structure. All doctor-patient/relative talk was allocated into six phases: Initiating, Gathering information, Summary, Explanation, Planning and Closing, using the 'communication process skills' from the Calgary-Cambridge Guide to the Medical Interview.

Rationale And Objectives: To investigate whether pre-treatment quantitative multiparametric MRI can predict biochemical outcome of prostate cancer (PCa) patients treated with primary radiotherapy (RT).

Materials And Methods: Fifty-one patients with biopsy confirmed PCa underwent prostate multiparametric MRI on 3T MR scanner prior to RT. Thirty-seven men (73%) were treated with external beam RT alone, 12 men (24%) were treated with brachytherapy monotherapy, and two men (4%) were treated with external beam RT with brachytherapy boost.

Intravenous blood irradiation with light is purported to reduce blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus (DM). Transcutaneous light emitting devices are marketed for use in modulating glucose levels, yet evidence of effectiveness is scarce. Aims: Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) are used for prognostication and monitoring in patients with carcinomas, but their utility is unclear in sarcomas. The objectives of this pilot study were to explore the prognostic significance of cfDNA and investigate whether tumour-specific alterations can be detected in the circulation of sarcoma patients.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used rarely in the acute evaluation of traumatic brain injury (TBI) but may identify findings of clinical importance not detected by computed tomography (CT). We aimed to characterize the association of cytotoxic edema and hemorrhage, including traumatic microbleeds, on MRI obtained within hours of acute head trauma and investigated the relationship to clinical outcomes. Spatial working memory (SWM) is the ability to encode, maintain, and retrieve spatial information over a temporal gap, and relies on a network of structures including the medial septum (MS), which provides critical input to the hippocampus. Although the role of the MS in SWM is well-established, up until recently, we have been unable to use temporally precise circuit manipulation techniques to examine the specific role of the MS in SWM, particularly to distinguish between encoding, maintenance, and retrieval. Here, we test the hypothesis that the MS supports the maintenance of spatial information over a temporal gap using precisely timed optogenetic suppression delivered during specific portions of three different tasks, two of which rely on SWM and one that does not.

DNA profiling from capsules and tablets offers a complementary tool to that of chemical profiling when investigating the manufacture and trade in illicit drugs. By sampling the outside of capsules, individuals who may have handled them during production, assembly or distribution may have deposited their DNA and can be identified if matched to a nominated profile or one on a relevant DNA database. The profiles can also be compared to those found on other capsules to potentially link various drug seizures.

Spatial working memory, the ability to temporarily maintain an internal representation of spatial information for use in guiding upcoming decisions, has been shown to be dependent upon a network of brain structures that includes the hippocampus, a region known to be critical for spatial navigation and episodic memory, and the prefrontal cortex (PFC), a region known to be critical for executive function and goal directed behavior. Oscillatory synchronization between the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex (PFC) is known to increase in situations of high working memory demand. Most of our knowledge about the anatomical connectivity between the PFC and hippocampus comes from the rodent literature.
