Our case report presents the clinical management of a 77-year-old female with recurrent acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to severe intracranial large artery atherosclerosis (LAA), requiring intracranial stenting complicated by new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF). This clinical scenario necessitated the use of triple antithrombotic therapy (TAT) with aspirin, ticagrelor, and apixaban. While guidelines recommend minimizing the duration of TAT or favoring alternative regimens due to bleeding risks, this case highlights the safe application of an extended duration TAT course in a high-risk patient.

The generation of noncovalent intermolecular interactions represents a powerful method to control molecular vibrations and rotations. Combining these with the axial ligand field enforced by the metallocene ligand scaffold provides a dual-pronged approach in controlling the magnetic-relaxation pathways for dysprosium-based single-molecule magnets (SMMs). Here, we present the first implementation of 2,3,4,5-tetraiodopyrrole (TIPH) in its anionic form [TIP] as a ligand in three isostructural rare-earth metal complexes Cp*RE(TIP) (1-RE, RE = Y, Gd, and Dy; Cp* = pentamethylcylopentadienyl), where the TIP ligand binds through the nitrogen and one iodine atom κ(N,I) to the metal centre.

Introduction: The War-Related Illness and Injury Study Center at the VA New Jersey Health Care System (WRIISC-VANJ) serves as one of the three tertiary referral centers for combat deployed Veterans of all eras with medically unexplained or difficult-to-diagnose conditions that may be related to deployment-related exposures. Many of the Veterans seen at the WRIISC experience chronic multisymptom illness (CMI), also known as Gulf War Illness (GWI). Given the complexity and interconnectedness of symptoms, Veterans with GWI are often unlikely to produce meaningful results when addressing single symptoms.

The imidophosphorane ligand, [NPBu] (Bu=tert-butyl), enables isolation of a pseudo-tetrahedral, tetravalent praseodymium complex, [Pr(NPBu)] (1-Pr), which is characterized by a suite of physical characterization methods including single-crystal X-ray diffraction, electron paramagnetic resonance, and L-edge X-ray near-edge spectroscopies. Variable-temperature direct-current magnetic susceptibility data, supported by multiconfigurational quantum chemical calculations, demonstrate that the electronic structure diverges from the isoelectronic Ce analogue, driven by increased crystal field. The four-coordinate environment around Pr in 1-Pr, which is unparalleled in reported extended solid systems, provides a unique opportunity to study the interplay between crystal field splitting and spin-orbit coupling in a molecular tetravalent lanthanide within a pseudo-tetrahedral coordination geometry.

Absorption spectroscopy probing transitions from shallow-core d and f orbitals in lanthanides and actinides reveals information about bonding and the electronic structure in compounds containing these elements. However, spectroscopy in this photon energy range is challenging because of the limited availability of light sources and extremely short penetration depths. In this work, we address these challenges using a tabletop extreme ultraviolet (XUV), ultrafast, laser-driven, high harmonic generation light source, which generates femtosecond pulses in the 40-140 eV range.

How did partisanship influence rhetoric about, public opinion of, and policies that prioritize racial and ethnic health disparities of COVID-19 during the first wave of the pandemic between March and July 2020? In this retrospective, mixed-methods analysis using national administrative and survey data, we found that the rhetoric and policy of shared sacrifice diminished and partisan differences in pandemic policy increased once it became clear to political elites that there were major racial disparities in COVID-19 cases and deaths. We trace how first disparities emerged in data and then were reported in elite, national media, discussed in Congress, and reflected in public opinion. Once racial disparities were apparent, partisan divides opened in media, public opinion, and legislative activity, with Democrats foregrounding inequality and Republicans increasingly downplaying the pandemic.

U(VI) peroxide phases (studtite and meta-studtite) are found throughout the nuclear fuel cycle and exist as corrosion products in high radiation fields. Peroxides are part of a family of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that include hydroperoxyl and superoxide species and are produced during alpha radiolysis of water. Turnip yellows virus (TuYV; previously known as beet western yellows virus) causes major diseases of species worldwide resulting in severe yield-losses in arable and vegetable crops. Blood serum and plasma are arguably the most commonly analyzed clinical samples, with dozens of proteins serving as validated biomarkers for various human diseases. Top-down proteomics may provide additional insights into disease etiopathogenesis since this approach focuses on protein forms, or proteoforms, originally circulating in blood, potentially providing access to information about relevant post-translational modifications, truncations, single amino acid substitutions, and many other sources of protein variation. However, the vast majority of proteomic studies on serum and plasma are carried out using peptide-centric, bottom-up approaches that cannot recapitulate the original proteoform content of samples.

A series of four lanthanide thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) complexes consisting of two f (La and Ce) and two f (Ce) complexes was examined using steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic techniques. The wide range of spectroscopic techniques presented herein have enabled us to discern the nature of the excited states (charge transfer, CT vs ligand localized, LL) as well as construct a Jablonski diagram for detailing the excited state reactivity within the series of molecules. The wavelength and excitation power dependence for these series of complexes are the first direct verification for the presence of simultaneous competing, noninteracting CT and LL excited states.
