WHIRLY2 is a single-stranded DNA binding protein associated with mitochondrial nucleoids. In the mutant of , a major proportion of leaf mitochondria has an aberrant structure characterized by disorganized nucleoids, reduced abundance of cristae, and a low matrix density despite the fact that the macroscopic phenotype during vegetative growth is not different from wild type. These features coincide with an impairment of the functionality and dynamics of mitochondria that have been characterized in detail in wild-type and mutant cell cultures.

Systemic Calcium Wave Propagation in Physcomitrella patens.

The adaptation to dehydration and rehydration cycles represents a key step in the evolution of photosynthetic organisms and requires the development of mechanisms by which to sense external stimuli and translate them into signaling components. In this study, we used genetically encoded fluorescent sensors to detect specific transient increases in the Ca2+ concentration in the moss Physcomitrella patens upon dehydration and rehydration treatment. Observation of the entire plant in a single time-series acquisition revealed that various cell types exhibited different sensitivities to osmotic stress and that Ca2+ waves originated from the basal part of the gametophore and were directionally propagated towards the top of the plant.

Assessment of condyle, masseter and temporal muscles volumes in patients with juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus: A cross-sectional study.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the corticosteroid therapy for both treatment of juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus and disease activity on two masticatory muscles and condyle of the temporomandibular joint.

Methods: A total of 21 controls and 48 juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus patients were investigated. Volumes of the temporal and masseter muscles and condyle of the subjects were assessed by using a 3D reconstruction in magnetic resonance imaging.

The scope of this study was to relate child obesity with the family's perception of the child's silhouette's and concern with excess weight in childhood A cross-sectional study was conducted among children aged between 20 and 48 months who frequent Health Units or are preschoolers in the city of Curitiba from June to December 2014. A questionnaire was used to collect data relating to family income, weight, height, perception of child silhouette's and assess concern about obesity by parents. Overweight and obesity was not correctly perceived by relations (kappa = 0,11) and the vast majority of parents did not know the child's height and weight and were not even concerned with childhood obesity.

Neuroactive and Anti-inflammatory Frankincense Cembranes: A Structure-Activity Study.

An expeditious isolation method for the cembrane diterpene alcohols incensol (1a) and serratol (2) has been developed from respectively African and Indian frankincense. The two native alcohols and a series of semisynthetic derivatives of incensol were evaluated for transient receptor potential vanilloid 3 (TRPV3) activation and the inhibition of NF-κB, the putative molecular targets underlying the psychotropic and anti-inflammatory activities of incensol acetate (IA, 1b). Serratol (2) was the most potent TRPV3 activator, outperforming by 2 orders of magnitude the reference agonist thymol and by 1 order of magnitude incensol acetate (1b).

Homologues of the p23 co-chaperone of HSP90 are present in all eukaryotes, suggesting conserved functions for this protein throughout evolution. Although p23 has been extensively studied in animal systems, little is known about its function in plants. In the present study, the functional characterization of the two isoforms of p23 in Arabidopsis thaliana is reported, suggesting a key role of p23 in the regulation of root development.

We will present unequivocal 59Co NMR evidence that below T_(CO) approximately 51 K, the insulating ground state of the itinerant antiferromagnet Na0.

Schema congruence and depression: loss of objectivity in self- and other-inferences.

Depressed and nondepressed students judged the plausibility of positive and negative inferences ostensibly made either by themselves or by others. Negative self-inferences were judged by depressed students as more plausible, and positive other-inferences as less plausible. The results were in accord with Beck's (1967) theory of schema-based distortion in depression, which proposes that persons vulnerable to the development of depression are prone to make erroneous negative inferences and to then regard those inferences as plausible and correct.
