[Multidisciplinary consensus on the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors in chilean clinical practice using the GRADE methodology].

The Chilean consensus on the use of SGLT-2 inhibitors (iSGLT-2) in clinical practice, jointly developed by the societies of Cardiology, Diabetes, Family Medicine, and Nephrology, strongly recommends the use of these drugs in people with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, type 2 diabetes mellitus for prevention of cardiovascular events, and chronic kidney disease. In heart failure with preserved or mildly reduced ejection fraction, and chronic kidney disease without diabetes, the consensus suggests the use of iSGLT-2. The importance of combining iSGLT-2 with ACE inhibitors or ARBs in chronic kidney disease is highlighted, and their use is recommended to replace sulfonylureas as a second-line treatment for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes.

Heterogeneous Pathological Changes in Liver Lobes During Liver Disease: A Perspective Review.

Liver diseases have a global prevalence of 25%, accounting for 4% of all deaths worldwide, and are associated with a 36% increased risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease constitutes the liver expression of metabolic syndrome and represents the primary type of liver disease. Microscopical analysis of biopsies, which allows the evaluation of a small portion of tissue with inferences made to the entire organ, is considered the gold standard for determining the presence of liver diseases.

Chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis: hierarchical analysis of recurrence factors.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze, through a hierarchical model, the risk factors associated with the recurrence of chemo-induced oral mucositis (OM) in children and adolescents.

Methods: A retrospective cohort with 31 individuals of both sexes, aged 1-18 years, who were undergoing chemotherapy, and presented OM lesions was conducted. Data collection included analysis of medical records, interviews, and intraoral examination.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease driven by the IL-23/IL-17 axis. It results from excessive activation of effector T cells, including T helper (Th) and cytotoxic T (Tc) cells, and is associated with dysfunctional regulatory T cells (Tregs). We evaluated whether linseed oil (LO) modulates the effects of a high-carbohydrate diet (HCD) on liver inflammation, fatty acid (FA) accumulation, and lipid distribution in periportal and perivenous hepatocytes. The control group (control high-carbohydrate diet [HCD-C]) received an HCD with lard and soybean oil as the lipid source. This article provides protocols with top ticks and pitfalls for preparation and successful generation of mouse and human DC from different cellular sources, such as murine BM and HoxB8 cells, as well as human CD34 cells from cord blood, BM, and peripheral blood or peripheral blood monocytes. We describe murine cDC1, cDC2, and pDC generation with Flt3L and the generation of BM-derived DC with GM-CSF.

Evaluation of Screws Positioning in Latarjet Surgery: Is There a Correlation between Parallelism to Glenoid and Radiographic Complications?

 To evaluate whether the parallelism of screws with glenoid in Latarjet surgery interferes in the positioning of the graft and to verify the reproducibility of a method of measuring screws positioning.  Retrospective, multicenter study, of patients with anterior shoulder instability submitted to modified Latarjet surgery and at least one year of postoperative follow-up. Two radiologists analyzed the postoperative tomographic images, acquired in a database, to evaluate the positioning of screws and radiographic complications.

Infant prostatic Rhabdomyosarcoma: A diagnostic and therapeutic challenge.

The following case report describes a case of prostatic rhabdomyosarcoma in a 6-month-old male who presented with urinary retention and constipation. MRI showed a prostatic mass that was displacing the rectum and bladder, leading to bladder outlet obstruction. A suprapubic tube was placed for urinary diversion and a transvesical approach was used for tissue diagnosis.

Evaluation of Latarjet procedure in female athletes: a 3-year follow-up prospective cohort study.

Background: Although there is a low incidence of shoulder instability in women, this population is still representative and is often associated with lower rates of return to sports. Few studies have evaluated the results of the Latarjet procedure in this population.

A Simple Technique to Restore Tension of a Loose Suture Bridge During Rotator Cuff Repair: Save the Repair.

The transosseous equivalent suture bridge technique has been widely used for rotator cuff repair, especially for large tears. During the fixation of the second lateral anchor, the first group of sutures may become loose due to anchor malposition or manual overtensioning of the second group of sutures. To restore the suture's tension, a spare suture from the second lateral anchor may be passed beneath the loose suture to tighten it with a simple knot.

Variability in Donor-Derived Cell-Free DNA Scores to Predict Mortality in Heart Transplant Recipients - A Proof-of-Concept Study.

Background: Over the last decade, expanding use of molecular diagnostics in heart transplantation has allowed implementation of non-invasive surveillance strategies for monitoring allograft health. The commercially available HeartCare platform combines the AlloMap gene expression profiling assay and the AlloSure donor-derived cell-free DNA test (dd-cfDNA). Beyond their established use for assessment of rejection, evidence is building for predictive utility, with the longitudinal AlloMap Variability score previously shown to correlate with the risk of future rejection, graft dysfunction, re-transplantation, or death.

Herein, plasma non-enzymatic antioxidant capacity after acute strenuous swimming exercise (Exe) and exercise until exhaustion (Exh) was measured in rats. The experiments were carried out in never exposed (Nex) and pre-exposed (Pex) groups.

There is evolving evidence of non-uniform distribution of ALS worldwide, with apparently lower incident and prevalent rates outside populations of European origin. However, the phenotype, survival and environmental risk in populations of mixed ancestral origin have not been well established. Large scale population based studies of incidence, prevalence, phenotype and risk factors in admixed populations are necessary to determine the true demography of ALS, and to test the hypothesis of differential risk and phenotype in populations of mixed ancestry.
