Approach to autologous stem cell transplantation in a patient with severe cold agglutinin disease, a case report.

Background: Cold agglutinin disease (CAD) or syndrome (CAS) can be particularly challenging when autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) is needed. Standard peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection and manipulation involve ex vivo blood manipulations at lower than body temperature, predisposing to agglutination during graft collection, handling, processing, and infusion.

Study Design And Methods: We describe the first case of ASCT for relapsing lymphoma in a patient with high-titer CAD requiring anti-complement therapy and chronic transfusion.

Guideline No. 457: Obstetrical Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIS) Part I: Prevention, Recognition, and Immediate Management.

Objective: The purpose of this guideline is to promote recognition and preventive strategies for obstetrical anal sphincter injuries. Furthermore, it provides guidance on primary repair and immediate postpartum management for obstetrical anal sphincter tears in order to minimize further negative sequelae.

Target Population: All patients having a vaginal delivery and those who have sustained an obstetrical anal sphincter injury.

Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction as Correlates of Physical Activity Trajectories During Adolescence.

This analysis aimed to (1) identify longitudinal joint trajectories of participation in organized and unorganized physical activity contexts, and level of daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and (2) assess whether basic psychological need satisfaction during adolescence differentiates between membership in different physical activity trajectories. Participants (n = 888; 56% girls) reported their involvement in 36 different physical activities, level of MVPA, and their perceived satisfaction of competence, autonomy, and relatedness satisfaction in physical activity up to three times per year, over 8 years (from ages 10 to 17 years). Group-based multi-trajectory models were used to identify longitudinal joint trajectories of physical activity participation.

Interprofessional interventions that impact collaboration and quality of care across inpatient trauma care continuum: A scoping review.

Introduction: Despite the recognized importance of interprofessional collaboration (IPC) in trauma care, healthcare professionals often work in silos. Interprofessional (IP) interventions are crucial for optimizing IPC and delivering high-quality care across clinical contexts, yet their effectiveness throughout the inpatient trauma care continuum is not well understood. Thus, this review aimed to examine the literature on the effectiveness of IP interventions on collaboration processes and related outcomes in inpatient trauma care.

Introduction: Caregivers of autistic persons often face "courtesy stigma," a phenomenon by which caregivers experience stigma because of their association with a person whose disability may be stigmatized. Understanding the repercussions of this stigma is crucial not only for caregivers' mental health but also for the quality of care provided to their dependent. This study aimed to explore courtesy stigma among caregivers of autistic persons in Quebec, examining its prevalence and impact in order to identify groups that are particularly susceptible to negative outcomes.

Seasonally abundant arthropods are a crucial food source for many migratory birds that breed in the Arctic. In cold environments, the growth and emergence of arthropods are particularly tied to temperature. Thus, the phenology of arthropods is anticipated to undergo a rapid change in response to a warming climate, potentially leading to a trophic mismatch between migratory insectivorous birds and their prey.

Soft tissue vascular tumor-like lesions in adults: imaging and pathological analysis pitfalls per ISSVA classification.

Objectives: To compare the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Doppler ultrasound (DUS) findings with the pathological findings of soft tissue vascular tumors (STVTs) according to the 2018 ISSVA (International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies) classification to differentiate vascular tumors from vascular malformations.

Methods: This retrospective study included patients with STVTs who underwent contrast-enhanced MRI and pathological analysis at our hospital between 2010 and 2020. The presumptive diagnosis based on the on-site imaging and histological analysis was compared with imaging and histological analysis conducted off-site utilizing the ISSVA criteria.

Modeling social stress in adolescent male and female rodents is needed to understand its effects on ongoing brain development and behavioral outcomes. The chronic social defeat stress paradigm (CSDS) has been widely used to model social stress in adult C57BL/6 male mice by leveraging on the aggressive behavior displayed by an adult male rodent to an intruder invading its territory.

Building an inclusive wave in marine science: Sense of belonging and Society for Women in Marine Science symposia.

Achieving gender equity is a long-standing and ubiquitous challenge in marine science. Creating equitable experiences for all genders in marine science requires recognizing scientists' intersectional identities, and how this leads to unique lived experiences of privilege and marginalization. One approach to increase equitable experiences for women in marine science is to create affinity groups where women can learn from each other, share their experiences, and provide support and mentorship.

Predictors of adverse outcomes in elders hospitalised for isolated orthopaedic trauma: a multicentre cohort study.

Background: Patients >64 years of age now represent more than 51% of injury hospitalisations in Canada. The tools used to identify older patients who could benefit the most from an interdisciplinary approach include complex parameters difficult to collect in the ED, which suggests that better tools with higher accuracy and using items that can be derived from routinely collected data are needed. We aimed to identify variables that are associated with adverse outcomes in older patients admitted to a trauma centre for an isolated orthopaedic injury.

Transarterial Embolization of Simple Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformations: Long-Term Outcomes of 0.018-Inch Coils versus Vascular Plugs.

Purpose: To compare the safety, effectiveness, and persistence rates of 0.018-inch coils with those of Amplatzer vascular plugs (AVPs; Abbott Vascular, Abbott Park, Illinois) for the treatment of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) in response to a growing concern that 0.018-inch coil embolization would increase the long-term persistence rate.

Background: The distension properties of the vagina are critical to its function including support of surrounding organs, childbirth, and intercourse. It could be altered by many pathophysiological processes like pregnancy, radiotherapy, and reconstruction surgery. However, there are no clinically available diagnostic tools capable of quantifying the distension properties of the vagina.

Factors influencing mercury exposure in Arctic-breeding shorebirds.

Mercury (Hg) pollution remains a concern to Arctic ecosystems, due to long-range transport from southern industrial regions and melting permafrost and glaciers. The objective of this study was to identify intrinsic, extrinsic, and temporal factors influencing Hg concentrations in Arctic-breeding shorebirds and highlight regions and species at greatest risk of Hg exposure. We analyzed 1094 blood and 1384 feather samples from 12 shorebird species breeding at nine sites across the North American Arctic during 2012 and 2013.

Plastic particles are ubiquitous in marine systems and fragment into smaller pieces, such as nanoplastics (NPs). The effects of NPs on marine organisms are of growing concern but are not well understood. Marine sediments act as a sink for many contaminants, like microplastics, and are rich habitats for benthic micro- and meiofauna which are ecologically-important components of marine food webs; however, little is known about the sensitivities of specific organisms to NPs or the effects on community diversity and composition.

Fetal restriction (FR) alters insulin sensitivity, but it is unknown how the metabolic profile associated with restriction affects development of the dopamine (DA) system and DA-related behaviors. The Netrin-1/DCC guidance cue system participates in maturation of the mesocorticolimbic DA circuitry. Therefore, our objective was to identify if FR modifies Netrin-1/DCC receptor protein expression in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) at birth and mRNA in adulthood in rodent males.

Identifying Quality Indicators for the Care of Hospitalized Injured Older Adults: A Scoping Review of the Literature.

Objectives: Older adults represent more than 50% of trauma admissions in many high-income countries. Furthermore, they are at increased risk for complications, resulting in worse health outcomes than younger adults and a significant health care utilization burden. Quality indicators (QIs) are used to assess the quality of care in trauma systems, but few QIs reflect responses to older patients' specific needs.

Implementation of Episcissors-60 for Prevention of Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIS) in a Centre with Low Episiotomy Rates.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether introduction of Episcissors-60 into a labour and birth unit would decrease the incidence of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS).

Methods: A before and after quality improvement study was conducted between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021. All patients who had a vaginal delivery were included in this study.
