A method is described which utilizes the O2 consumption of aerobes and facultative aerobes from urinary tract infections for their detection. Urines obtained by puncture and the corresponding midstream urines were examined for verification. Irrespective of secondary contamination and the presence of non-causative organisms, the O2 consumption method permits the detection of a bacterial urinary tract infection within 1 h.

This article describes a new transport and enrichment technic that improves growth conditions of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and that is particularly suitable for use in dermatology clinics with no bacteriology facilities. The deep-prick culture makes use of a simple and proven selective medium, which is placed in small plastic or glass vessels. After inoculation deep into the agar medium, the gonococci themselves create the required microaerophilic environment.

To determine autoantibodies against nuclear constituents, parietal cells, smooth muscles, mitochondria, microsomes of the thyreoidea and against myocard we use 4 micrometer cryostat tissue sections or monolayer cell preparations. After stepwise desiccation they are shortly heated to 100 degrees C. Antigenicity and histological structures are fully preserved for months, if these substrates were stored at -20 degrees C, provided that rehydration by even traces of moisture is carefully prevented.

Bacteriological smears were taken from various regions of the oral cavities of a total of 100 subjects (patients with carcinoma, non-specific ulcer or leucoplakia, and patients without pathological oral findings). The preparations were stained by the Gram procedure and differentiated according to germ count, morphology and ability to combine with dyes. Gram positive cocci prevailed in all groups.
