In addition to the conventional symptoms reported for COVID-19, it is becoming increasingly clear that patients with long COVID are exhibiting new symptoms due to the emergence of autoantibodies against G-protein-coupled receptors, among which human muscarinic cholinergic receptors (CHRMs) have been prominently reported. With a chronic condition such as long COVID, additional symptoms caused by anti-CHRM autoantibodies (AAbs) have proven to be an added burden on these patients. The origins of these AAbs, their interactions with, and effects on the function of neural and non-neural cells within the nervous system have remained unknown.

Aberrant Ras homologous (Rho) GTPase signalling is a major driver of cancer metastasis, and GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs), the negative regulators of RhoGTPases, are considered promising targets for suppressing metastasis, yet drug discovery efforts have remained elusive. Here, we report the identification and characterization of adhibin, a synthetic allosteric inhibitor of RhoGAP class-IX myosins that abrogates ATPase and motor function, suppressing RhoGTPase-mediated modes of cancer cell metastasis. In human and murine adenocarcinoma and melanoma cell models, including three-dimensional spheroid cultures, we reveal anti-migratory and anti-adhesive properties of adhibin that originate from local disturbances in RhoA/ROCK-regulated signalling, affecting actin-dynamics and actomyosin-based cell-contractility.

Prenatal exposure to alcohol and tobacco has been associated with child regulatory abilities and problems, but less is known about the associations with cannabis exposure. This review seeks to address this gap primarily focusing on the effects of maternal cannabis use on the child. Thus, we investigate the association between pre- and postnatal cannabis exposure of the child and regulatory abilities and problems, as well as the underlying neurobiological mechanisms potentially mediating the associations.

In 3D freehand ultrasound imaging, operator dependent variations in applied forces and movements can lead to errors in the reconstructed images. In this paper, we introduce an automated 3D ultrasound system, which enables acquisitions with controlled movement trajectories by using motors, which electrically move the probe. Objectives: In this paper, an artificial intelligence-based algorithm for predicting the optimal contrast medium dose for computed tomography (CT) angiography of the aorta is presented and evaluated in a clinical study. Introduction: External stressors, such as COVID-19 pandemic and earthquake, can cause an increase in substance use and addictive behavior in persons with severe mental illnesses (SMI). We analyzed the changes and predictors of substance use and addictive behavior in SMI during these double disasters in Croatia.

Methods: Questionnaires exploring the presence of substance or behavior addiction disorder, mental ill health [Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised], coping mechanisms, and perceived social support [Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS)] were administered among 90 participants with SMI included in the RECOVER-E study in May/June 2020 (first COVID-19 wave, Zagreb earthquake) and in December 2020/January 2021 (second COVID-19 wave, Petrinja earthquake).

Prenatal androgen exposure modulates the development of the brain, with lasting effects on its function and behavior over the infant's life span. Environmental factors during pregnancy, in particular maternal stress, have been shown to influence the androgen load of the unborn child. We here addressed the research gap on whether a mindfulness intervention or a pregnancy education administered to pregnant women more affects the androgen exposure of the unborn child (quantified by the proxies of second-to-fourth digit length ratio (2D:4D) and anogenital distance assessed one year after delivery and at delivery, respectively).

The nasal cavity is a prime site for viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in COVID-19, as is evident from the fact that this area has been used for sample collection for the diagnosis of COVID-19. The nasal cavity has a connection with the brain across the cribriform plate which has been reported to be a route of SARS-CoV-2 to the olfactory apparatus and the brain. Targeting the SARS-CoV-2 in the nasal cavity in patients presenting with COVID-19 and long-COVID can result in the prevention and treatment of neurological deficits and therefore needs to be prioritized as a route of potential significance.

This work aims to recognize the patient individual possibility of contrast dose reduction in CT angiography. This system should help to identify whether the dose of contrast agent in CT angiography can be reduced to avoid side effects.
