This paper describes protocols and experiences from a seven-year natural-experiment study in El Paso, Texas, a border city of predominantly Latino/Hispanic population. The study focuses on how Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) impacts physical activity and thus plays a role in alleviating obesity and related chronic diseases that impact healthy aging. Our protocols describe a longitudinal and case-comparison study, which compared residents exposed to new BRT stations with those who were not.

Urticaria exacerbations and adverse reactions in patients with chronic urticaria receiving COVID-19 vaccination: Results of the UCARE COVAC-CU study.

Background: Concern about disease exacerbations and fear of reactions after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccinations are common in chronic urticaria (CU) patients and may lead to vaccine hesitancy.

Objective: We assessed the frequency and risk factors of CU exacerbation and adverse reactions in CU patients after COVID-19 vaccination.

Methods: COVAC-CU is an international multicenter study of Urticaria Centers of Reference and Excellence (UCAREs) that retrospectively evaluated the effects of COVID-19 vaccination in CU patients aged ≥18 years and vaccinated with ≥1 dose of any COVID-19 vaccine.

Virtual Sensor of Gravity Centres for Real-Time Condition Monitoring of an Industrial Stamping Press in the Automotive Industry.

This article proposes the development of a novel tool that allows real-time monitoring of the balance of a press during the stamping process. This is performed by means of a virtual sensor that, by using the tonnage information in real time, allows us to calculate the gravity centre of a virtual load that moves the slide up and down. The present development follows the philosophy shown in our previous work for the development of industrialised predictive systems, that is, the use of the information available in the system to develop IIoT tools.

Different outcomes among patients with intermediate-risk metastastic renal cell carcinoma treated with first-line tyrosine-kinase inhibitors.

Introduction: Systemic therapy of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) has improved in the past years, with the advent of new immunotherapy-based combinations as a standard treatment option for first-line therapy. Nevertheless, particularly in good-risk patients by IMDC criteria, tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKI) may remain as an option for some patients. We reviewed our experience with TKI as first-line therapy for mRCC patients, trying to identify subgroups of patients that may still benefit from this strategy.

The serotonin 5-HT receptor (5-HTR) and 5-HTR localize to the brain and share overlapping signal transduction facets that contribute to their roles in cognition, mood, learning, and memory. Achieving selective targeting of these receptors is challenged by the similarity in their 5-HT orthosteric binding pockets. A fragment-based discovery approach was employed to design and synthesize novel oleamide analogues as selective 5-HTR or dual 5-HTR/5-HTR positive allosteric modulators (PAMs).

Effect of Parental Adverse Childhood Experiences on Intergenerational DNA Methylation Signatures.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are events that occur before a child turns 18 years old that may cause trauma. In this study, the effect of cumulative ACEs experienced on human maternal DNA methylation (DNAm) was estimated while accounting for interaction with domains of ACEs in prenatal peripheral blood mononuclear cell samples from the Maternal and Developmental Risks from Environmental Stressors (MADRES) pregnancy cohort. The intergenerational transmission of ACE-associated DNAm was also explored used paired maternal and neonatal cord blood samples.

Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia and deep vein thrombosis in a patient with glioblastoma multiforme.

We present a case of disseminated Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia in a patient with a medical history of glioblastoma multiforme associated with acute deep-vein thrombosis. The patient presented to the emergency department with clinical features of pulmonary infection, and the chest images showed pneumonia. Antibiotics were initiated (azithromycin, cefepime, and vancomycin) and the patient was transferred to the ward for further management, where the condition of the patient continued to worsen over the second day.

Automatic Assessment of the 2-Minute Walk Distance for Remote Monitoring of People with Multiple Sclerosis.

The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of automatically assessing the 2-Minute Walk Distance (2MWD) for monitoring people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). For 154 pwMS, MS-related clinical outcomes as well as the 2MWDs as evaluated by clinicians and derived from accelerometer data were collected from a total of 323 periodic clinical visits. Accelerometer data from a wearable device during 100 home-based 2MWD assessments were also acquired.

Background: Immunization with live attenuated viral yellow fever vaccine (YFV) grants effective immunity in most cases, and is recommended and prioritized for residents and travelers of endemic countries. YFV is seldom administered to egg-allergic patients (EAP) since it is cultivated in embryonated chicken eggs and may contain residual egg proteins, being a problem for egg-allergic residents and travelers of endemic countries.

Objective: Describe the frequency of allergic reactions after YFV administration in confirmed EAP from an allergy outpatient center in Bogotá, Colombia.
