Article Synopsis
  • Unipotent basal and luminal stem cells are essential for maintaining prostate health, with a newly identified intermediate population (Basal-B) emerging during inflammation or cancer.
  • Basal-B cells show increased organoid formation capabilities and are considered a temporary basal stem cell state influenced by androgen levels and JAK/STAT signaling.
  • The study highlights that inflammation promotes the transition of Basal-B cells to luminal cells, while inhibiting JAK/STAT signaling can lessen this transition and potentially impacts prostate disease development like neoplasia.

The therapeutic potential of commensal microbes and their metabolites is promising in the functional cure of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, which is defined as hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) loss. Here, using both specific-pathogen-free and germ-free mice, we report that probiotics significantly promote the decline of HBsAg and inhibit HBV replication by enhancing intestinal homeostasis and provoking intrahepatic interferon (IFN)-γCD4 T cell immune response. Depletion of CD4 T cells or blockage of IFN-γ abolishes probiotics-mediated HBV inhibition.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoporosis, characterized by fragile bones and increased fracture risk, is linked to osteocalcin (OC), which serves as a key biochemical marker for bone health, existing in two forms: carboxylated (cOC) and undercarboxylated (ucOC).
  • This study investigated how serum levels of OC, cOC, and ucOC relate to bone mineral density (BMD), bone structure, muscle mass, and physical activity in postmenopausal Chinese women.
  • Findings showed that higher levels of serum OC, cOC, and ucOC were found in women with osteoporosis, with ucOC positively affecting bone area but negatively correlated with bone density and microarchitecture, while also being positively associated with muscle mass.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are trying to understand how viruses, like HIV-1, get into the cell's nucleus through special openings called nuclear pore complexes (NPCs).
  • They found that a part of the HIV-1 virus called the capsid (CA) is really important for this process, as it interacts with specific proteins called nucleoporins (Nups) in the NPCs.
  • Researchers discovered that certain nucleoporins (Nup35, Nup153, and POM121) help HIV-1 get inside the nucleus, and that if the capsid is changed or certain host factors are removed, the virus has a harder time getting in.

Cesium copper halide perovskite is one of the promising materials for solar-blind light detection. However, most of the cesium copper halide perovskite-based photodetectors (PDs) are focused on ultraviolet A detection and realized on the rigid substrate in the single device configuration. Here, a flexible solar-blind PDs array (10 × 10 pixels) based on the CsCu I film patterns for ultraweak light sensing and light distribution imaging is reported.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the links between oxytocin (OT), bone health, and osteoporosis risk in Chinese adult women, focusing on differences between premenopausal and postmenopausal groups.
  • Results showed that premenopausal women had significantly higher serum OT, estradiol levels, and bone mineral density (BMD) compared to postmenopausal women, indicating a potential protective effect.
  • The findings suggest that higher OT levels are associated with better BMD, particularly in the hip region of premenopausal women, highlighting OT's potential role in osteoporosis prevention and treatment.

Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been proposed to be a simple, economical, and reliable marker of insulin resistance. We aimed to investigate whether TyG is an independent predictor of hyperuricemia in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) populations by conducting a cross-sectional and longitudinal study. A total of 6,471 patients were enrolled in cross-sectional analysis, and 3,634 patients without hyperuricemia at the baseline were included in longitudinal analysis and were followed up for a median of 23.

Variations in the red blood cell (RBC) lifespan can affect glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) test values, but there is still a lack of evidence regarding how and to what degree the RBC lifespan influences HbA1c in the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) population owing to the restriction of traditional RBC lifespan detection means. In this study, we monitored 464 T2DM patients and 231 healthy control finger blood glucose levels at seven time points for three consecutive months. The HbA1c levels were assessed at the end of the third month as well as the RBC lifespan was measured through the CO breath test.

Understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms behind ADE of SARS-CoV-2 is critical for development of safe and effective therapies. Here, we report that two neutralizing mAbs, MW01 and MW05, could enhance the infection of SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus on FcγRIIB-expressing B cells. X-ray crystal structure determination and S trimer-binding modeling showed that MW01 and MW05 could bind to RBDs in S trimer with both "up" and "down" states.

Nonrandom selection in one-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) results in biased estimates and inflated type I error rates only when the selection effects are sufficiently large. In two-sample MR, the different selection mechanisms in two samples may more seriously affect the causal effect estimation. Firstly, we propose sufficient conditions for causal effect invariance under different selection mechanisms using two-sample MR methods.
