The accurate modeling of dissociative chemisorption of molecules on metal surfaces presents an exciting scientific challenge to theorists, and is practically relevant to modeling heterogeneously catalyzed reactive processes in computational catalysis. The first important scientific challenge in the field is that accurate barriers for dissociative chemisorption are not yet available from first principles methods. For systems that are not prone to charge transfer (for which the difference between the work function of the surface and the electron affinity of the molecule is larger than 7 eV) this problem can be circumvented: chemically accurate barrier heights can be extracted with a semi-empirical version of density functional theory (DFT).

Ultrasound imaging and ultrasound-mediated gene and drug delivery are rapidly advancing diagnostic and therapeutic methods; however, their use is often limited by the need for microbubbles, which cannot transverse many biological barriers due to their large size. Here, the authors introduce 50-nm gas-filled protein nanostructures derived from genetically engineered gas vesicles(GVs) that are referred to as GVs. These diamond-shaped nanostructures have hydrodynamic diameters smaller than commercially available 50-nm gold nanoparticles and are, to the authors' knowledge, the smallest stable, free-floating bubbles made to date.

Importance: The cerebral serotonin 4 (5-HT4) receptor is a promising novel target for treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), and pharmacological stimulation of the 5-HT4 receptor has been associated with improved learning and memory in healthy individuals.

Building on the comparative nonpatient study of Pianowski et al., we examine data from the Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS) and Comprehensive System (CS) in 100 nonpatients and 100 patients, 50 of each per system. Replicating their results but now in a patient sample, R-PAS produced more patient protocols having an optimal number of responses (R) for interpretation and eliminated the need for readministration due to low R.

The Breakthrough Series Quality Improvement Collaborative (QIC) initiative is a well-developed and widely used approach, but most of what we know about it has come from healthcare settings. In this article, those leading QICs to improve care in care homes provide detailed accounts of six QICs and share their learning of applying the QIC approach in the care home sector. Overall, five care home-specific lessons were learnt: (i) plan for the resources needed to support collaborative teams with collecting, processing, and interpreting data; (ii) create encouraging and safe working environments to help collaborative team members feel valued; (iii) recruit collaborative teams, QIC leads, and facilitators who have established relationships with care homes; (iv) regularly check project ideas are aligned with team members' job roles, responsibilities, and priorities; and (v) work flexibly and accept that planned activities may need adapting as the project progresses.

We characterize a hybrid pixel direct detector and demonstrate its suitability for electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). The detector has a large dynamic range, narrow point spread function, detective quantum efficiency ≥ 0.8 even without single electron arrival discrimination, and it is resilient to radiation damage.

Acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a leading cause of mortality after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) mediated by dysregulated T-cell immune reconstitution. Given the role of the T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin 1 (TIM-1) surface protein in many immune processes, including organ transplantation tolerance, we asked if TIM-1 might drive post-transplant inflammation and acute GVHD. Dissociation of methane on metal surfaces is of high practical and fundamental interest. Therefore there is currently a big push aimed at determining the simplest dynamical model that allows the reaction dynamics to be described with quantitative accuracy using quantum dynamics. Using five-dimensional quantum dynamical and full-dimensional ab initio molecular dynamics calculations, we show that the CD3 umbrella axis of CHD3 must reorient before the molecule reaches the barrier for C-H cleavage to occur in reaction on Pt(111).

Luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) generally consist of transparent polymer sheets doped with luminescent species.
