Aim/hypothesis: The main aim of the study was to identify point of care available laboratory and clinical predictors of 7‑day mortality in critically ill patients with a hyperglycemic crisis.

Methods: A retrospective study of 990 patients with the first hospitalization due to hyperglycemia was performed. Patients were classified as having diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or being in a hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state (HHS) according to the recommendations of the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

The potential mid-term and long-term consequences after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections are as yet unknown. This is the first report of bronchoscopically verified organizing pneumonia as a complication of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid19). Background: Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is used to treat acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); however, long-term outcomes following discharge are largely unknown. This study aimed to characterize long-term outcomes and identify associated markers in patients with COPD after surviving the first episode of HRF requiring NIV.

Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed 122 patients, mean age 62 ± 8 years, 52% female and forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) predicted 30 ± 13%, admitted with an acute hypercapnic exacerbation of COPD and receiving a first-ever NIV treatment between 2000 and 2012.

The nucleotide sequence of the Orgyia pseudotsugata multinucleocapsid nuclear polyhedrosis virus (OpMNPV) genome was completed and analyzed. It is composed of 131,990 bases with a G + C content of 55% and contains 152 putative genes of 150 nucleotides or greater. The gene for human 5-lipoxygenase has been isolated from three different bacteriophage genomic libraries and a genomic cosmid library. The gene spans greater than 82 kilobases and consists of 14 exons. The size range for the exons is 82-613 base pairs, whereas that for the introns is approximately 200 bp to greater than 26 kb.
