Objectives: In patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS), rapid triage is essential. The aim of this study was to establish a tool for risk prediction of 30-day cardiac events (CE) on admission. 30-day cardiac events (CE) were defined as early coronary revascularization, subsequent myocardial infarction, or cardiovascular death within 30 days.

This is the first study to investigate the efficacy of intravenous iron in treating fatigue in nonanemic patients with low serum ferritin concentration. In a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study, 90 premenopausal women presenting with fatigue, serum ferritin ≤ 50 ng/mL, and hemoglobin ≥ 120 g/L were randomized to receive either 800 mg of intravenous iron (III)-hydroxide sucrose or intravenous placebo. Fatigue and serum iron status were assessed at baseline and after 6 and 12 weeks.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how genetic variations in toll-like receptors (specifically TLR4) affect the clinical expression of hereditary hemochromatosis in carriers of the HFE C282Y mutation.
  • - Results show that individuals with the TLR4 Asp299Gly polymorphism experience more severe symptoms and complications, like liver disease and joint issues, compared to those without the polymorphism.
  • - The findings suggest that while the TLR4 mutation influences the severity of clinical symptoms, it doesn't affect the overall level of iron overload in the body, indicating a role in inflammatory responses related to iron toxicity.

Aims: Anderson-Fabry disease affects various organ systems due to glycosphingolipid accumulation. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) has been reported to decrease left ventricular wall thickening (LVWT) and to improve diastolic dysfunction.

Methods And Results: This prospective study included 29 patients (patients; mean age 37 +/- 13 years) with genetically, enzymatically and/or biopsy-proven Anderson-Fabry disease and long-time ERT.
