Hence, there is a continuous interest in identifying novel, alternative, and even unconventional feed resources that could help sustainably support chicken meat production and quality. In this view, the microalga Spirulina (, formerly , ), due to its unique chemical composition and some ecological advantages offered by its cultivation over traditional agriculture, has attracted great attention in the poultry sector for potential application in broiler diets, either as a functional supplement or a replacer of conventional protein sources such as soybean meal.

Grade IV multiforme glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive cancer that remains incurable due to the GBM cells invading and proliferating in the surrounding healthy tissues, even after tumor resection. A new therapeutic paradigm to treat GBM is to attract and accumulate GBM cells in a macroporous hydrogel inserted in the surgical cavity after tumor resection, followed by a targeted high dose of radiotherapy. This work presents a molding-based method to prepare macroporous hydrogels composed of sodium alginate and chitosan, homogeneously mixed in solution using sodium bicarbonate, and subsequently crosslinked with genipin and calcium chloride.

Lectins are widely employed for the assessment of protein glycosylation as their carbohydrate binding specificities have been well characterized. In glycosylation assays, lectins are often conjugated with biotin tags, which interact with streptavidin to functionalize biosensing surfaces or recruit signal generating molecules, depending on the assay configuration. We here demonstrate that a high degree of biotin conjugation can limit total capture to streptavidin functionalized SPR surfaces due to multipoint binding, and can additionally bias the reported kinetic evaluations when measuring the interaction between lectins and glycoproteins by SPR.

The present study was carried out to evaluate and compare the protective potential of two well-known antioxidants of herbal origin in a mouse model of acute DIC-induced nephro- and hepatotoxicity. The tested antioxidants included lemongrass essential oil (LO) and its predominant bioactive constituent citral (CIT). A third herbal product, silymarin (SILY), was used as a reference hepato-renal protective agent.
